  1. I agree, which is why we must still consider the current economy the worst of the lower classes lifetime
  2. There’s literally an article in the OP with the data
  3. Are you acknowledging that the price impact would be felt primarily in specific areas most impacted?
  4. Peefoam: “do you just pick and choose things that go up and down through time?” also peefoam: names only the 2 things that probably go up and down through time the most lol
  5. Let’s forget about the makeup of the population for a second. Would it be fair to summarize your theory as: ”more people = higher housing prices” ?
  6. Cool, do you eat gas? Maybe that would explain some things
  7. Total population of Cook County down since 2020, housing prices way up. Thanks again for confirming illegal immigration isn’t a primary driver of housing price increases.
  8. Prices are still going up. They would need to come down for it to not be “the worst” anymore. It’s not worse than during Biden (yet, hopefully it stays that way), but it’s not any better.

    Texas flooding terrible, tragic

    Link?
  10. I agree, people saying to deport all Somalians have a low IQ
  11. @RLLD confirms current economy is still the worst of the lower classes’ lifetime

Seems like semantics IMO, there were Mexican teams that assisted, just not “coordinated by the Mexican government and President”
  13. Yay for free speech! Lots of people just coming out and saying things like this on x (I’m sure @iam90sbaby would appreciate these types of posts). If there was a question that x leans right these days, there isn’t anymore. https://x.com/bumbadum14/status/1944816319620374667

    Sound of Freedom

@Horseman: “America needs to see this movie.” Also @Horseman: illegally streams it thus stealing from the creators who claim to be trying to raise funds to stop human trafficking lol
  16. OK I just reread your earlier post and the article. So the -900K people stat is “since 1970.” lol that’s over 50 years. For one, this thread is specific to the last ~5 years. Besides, according to the article you linked, they weren’t even all replaced. Only ~600k immigrants moved in. In total, looks like the total Cook County population is down about 6% since 1970 (https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/ILCOOK1POP). Yet over that same time period home prices are probably up about 5x+ (4x vs 1987 which is the earliest data on FRED: https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/CHXRSA) So thanks for confirming population trends aren’t always correlated with home price trends! I presume your rebuttal will be “yeah but prices would have went up less without the immigrants!” Well getting back to the original topic of the last ~5 years and the common theory (with no evidence) that the influx of illegals is driving up overall home prices, the population of Cook County is actually down about 2% (almost 100k people) from 2020 to 2024 alone. Yet home prices are up almost 50%.

  18. Saagar Enjeti (a conservative) told an interesting story on Breaking Points today. Forget the exact wording but he said someone told him in 2016 that Trump getting elected would be the worst thing to happen for people who have stopping illegal immigration as a top priority, because Trump would go “full retard” and cause normal people to turn against his policies. Took until the second term, but that might be what’s happening.

Human trafficking is mostly not a thing

I don’t think so, but again, it was about “raising awareness”
  20. Have 900k illegals moved to Chicago since 2021?

Human trafficking is mostly not a thing

Wasn’t there a giant thread about how the exaggerated but “based on a true story” movie Sound of Freedom was one of the best movies ever and did an awesome job “raising awareness about human trafficking”?
  22. There were a lot of other factors in 2021 as well though. IMO the biggest being the supply chain crisis and resulting explosion in materials costs. Plus the Biden stimulus combined with most Americans having saved more than ever during the pandemic. Then the Trump vaccine becoming widely available and giving people hope that things would quickly get back to normal, in addition to a job market that bounced back quickly after the beginning of the pandemic. I’m sorry, I’m gonna need more than “but a lot of illegals came here!” to convince me that a bunch of folks competing for the lowest possible cost housing is going to have much impact on many areas having median home prices of $600K+

Like what Abrego Garcia is accused to have assisted with, correct?
  24. @jerryskids, you may find this interesting, kinda reminded me of our conversation including some of the same topics mentioned. While Kirk has said a lot of despicable things, I thought he did a good job moderating this debate. Overall they both seemed to know their stuff, but the pro-Israel dude did stoop to name calling more often. I thought the anti-Israel dude brought up an interesting analogy about the “BuT hAmAs UsEs HuMaN sHiElDs!” argument…that’d be like if someone robbed a bank and took everyone inside hostage, and in order to stop him we just blew up the whole bank. I don’t think many people would support that. So he correctly called out the hypocrisy of people claiming to be “pro-life” but being okay with the murder of children as long as they take out some Hamas dudes at the same time.
  25. Yup, hilarious coming from the guy constantly begging for my attention.
