This argument doesn’t even make sense, because we didn’t know him saying the WH wouldn’t be touched was a lie until a couple days ago. In fact I’d argue there wasn’t much outrage at all until the past few days when the pictures started coming out, showing that 1) it was being touched contrary to his claim, and 2) seeing how massive the addition actually is.

The lie about “not touching it” was part of it, which of course is still a valid complaint and proven to be a lie, but the main complaint was about the WH “being destroyed,” which obviously is a reference to the extent of the renovations.

Well yeah, the size of the renovation is what is causing the outrage and for people to say the White House is “being destroyed.” I wouldn’t go quite that far, but it’s certainly much closer to that than any renovation since and probably including under Truman. Anyone comparing this to Obama converting an outdoor tennis court to a tennis court that can also be a basketball court is an idiot.

To be fair, there probably hasn’t been a renovation comparably extensive since Truman.

So it does now appear that they’re taking down more than just the porch thing. But, multiple past presidents had construction done to the WH, so this probably isn’t that out of the ordinary. Although, I’d be curious if any of those happened this soon into the President’s term…i.e, was there planning for this going on before the election? Also, this is pretty dang ugly:
