Why do we have a vaccine against a virus?

Delta begs to differ. Edit: unless you’re being very literal with “mostly.” ALL diseases mostly effect the elderly and sick. And yes I acknowledge Delta was after I’ve stated it shouldn’t have been an emergency. In hindsight, the only argument I can see in favor of the Barrington declaration as it relates to death totals is that maybe some of the younger folks that died from Delta may not have died from the Wuhan/alpha strains. But of course they also could have just gotten vaccinated as over 90% of Covid deaths during Delta were unvaccinated. And also if many more people did get infected in 2020 then we could have seen more hospitals actually being overwhelmed - some were, but not a lot likely because restrictions did help limit spread even if they may not have been worth the economic cost. Also the fact that 2020 had the largest year over year change in deaths since 1918 begs to differ as well.
  3. I’ve seen bits and pieces but what I did see was pretty funny
  4. Maybe you should argue with @RLLD, he thinks it’s not happening
  5. Please explain how my first 2 statements are inconsistent. I am confident Delta deaths extended in December, as only 13% of cases sequenced during the week ending 12/11/21 were Omicron (link above). So using that + the 20 day calculation which has widely been proven accurate, nearly all 2021 Covid deaths were from Delta. However, I was trying to be nice and let you believe that all deaths after 11/20 were Omicron, which is the absolute maximum possible. And even doing that, over half of the deaths in Q4 2021 would have been from Delta.
  6. Well it was a civil case, so he wasn’t on trial for being illegal.
  7. What are you getting at?

I didn’t think you didn’t approve? Not sure what you mean. I said I wasn’t sure of your stance on the vaccine as a whole, and honestly I’m still not. You are saying we may not know for 40 years if it’s killing people (I’m taking that to mean you don’t currently think it is), and it’s a symptom suppressant, which are mostly positive opinions.

    Coronavirus - Doomsday

I'm not following. You think the CDC was trying to admit that the vax makes you more susceptible than not being vaxxed without actually saying it? There is not actual data that the vaccinated catch it more often. There is one graph in a Cleveland Clinic study that literally also claims the Bivalent booster was 30% effective at preventing infection. Vaccine vs. natural immunity is mostly irrelevant at this point, because most people with vaccine immunity also have natural immunity. And no there is no evidence that getting the vaccine somehow prevents you from having natural immunity after you get infected.

If you don't think speeding up the approval process could have played a role in potentially missing safety issues, then I can't help you, you need to take off your MAGA-colored glasses.

Why do we have a vaccine against a virus?

Honestly I would say it could have been considered a non-emergency once everyone that wanted the vaccine could get one. So probably somewhere around 4th of July 2021. And yes, I know that was when the infamous Massachusetts orgy occurred. But IIRC at most 1 person was even hospitalized from that. But overall yes, the vaccine did have around 60-80% effectiveness against Delta transmission.

Why do we have a vaccine against a virus?

If it turns out that the vaccine had a net negative effect (doubtful), then Trump deserves some blame for Operation Warp Speed and accelerating the timeline. He "pushed the FDA like they've never been pushed before" (his words). As it stands, I am grateful for Trump being the "father of the vaccine" (his words).
  13. I've only served on one and it was literally almost exactly this (except 2 cars), although I didn't flip out. The GC would enjoy that the at fault driver was an uninsured illegal immigrant. Although IIRC he was driving the car of a family member who was legal and had insurance, and I think they covered it anyway.

Why do we have a vaccine against a virus?

So to be clear, you don't think the vaccine is causing more than a handful of deaths?
  15. Thanks for agreeing that police discriminate against blacks. And isn't the number 56% not 67%?

Why do we have a vaccine against a virus?

So it was an emergency initially, just not once Omicron hit? I'd agree with that.

Why do we have a vaccine against a virus?

Are you denying you said that?
  18. You're joking, right? https://www.nyu.edu/about/news-publications/news/2020/may/black-drivers-more-likely-to-be-stopped-by-police.html

Why do we have a vaccine against a virus?

How are you defining "not an emergency"?
  20. I think we've had this conversation before, but I would argue that the "low statistical outcome" of blacks getting killed by police is more of just the symptom of the bigger problem of blacks being stereotyped and discriminated against by police. I mean just look at some of the other threads on here recently, you have several posters admitting and claiming they are justified in discriminating against all blacks because of the actions of a few.

  22. Any death is a big deal, and I've always said the vaccine should not have been pushed on kids (and did not vaccinate my own kids). However, all of the available data says the vaccines have saved many more lives than they may have cost. There is limited data specific to kids (part of the reason I said it shouldn't have been pushed), but there is still some to point to it still being a higher reward than risk, just not as clear as it is for adults.
  23. Oh sorry, you "had a chance to go pro." no you didn't.
