  1. Yes but to me the drastic increases in absenteeism % can’t be explained by kids being homeschooled or going to charter/private schools. I live in NC. At least here, that’s not what’s driving the increase. The absenteeism rate increased from 15% in 2018 to 27% in 2023. The number of chronically absent students however increased from 241k in 2019 to 462k in 2022: https://www.wral.com/story/nearly-half-a-million-nc-students-are-considered-chronically-absent-according-to-new-study/20994843/ Interestingly, the % is slightly higher in rural areas than urban: https://dashboard.myfuturenc.org/college-and-career-access/chronic-absenteeism/ edit: and the number of students enrolled in traditional public schools hasn’t seen significant changes, although 2023 was the first year it declined since 2020 https://www.ednc.org/enrollment-2023-school-year/
  2. Yes. Do you think that is what’s happening?

    This economy is so bad

I don’t think these empty office buildings necessarily need to be converted to low income housing. Even if they were converted to “luxury housing,” in some of these big cities with really low supply it should help bring overall rents down.

Aren’t many of them for sale? I would assume the incentive for change would come in the form of tax incentives for a potential buyer (or maybe the current owner).

Uh, those things mean there are more jobs for the poors, dumbazz

Are you in favor of the idea? At first glance I would be
  7. Wait are you claiming the supposed concern wasn’t about getting shot at all, but rather getting their sneakers stolen?
  8. Looks like they will be reassigned, not fired
  9. Just reread the article. So the “citation” is an anecdote from his wife who runs a charity. But, it immediately follows a line saying “Why are so many students missing from class?”…
  10. I had already expressed skepticism about that comment earlier by calling out that it had no citation. But even if someone actually said that to the author: 1) Is your position really that that quote was not in the context of being afraid of getting shot AT SCHOOL over sneakers? 2) If yes to #1, how the heck is that relevant to this discussion?
  11. If the concern isn’t getting shot in school, then it’s irrelevant to this thread which is about [checks notes] kids not showing up to school. And that quote looks like something the Fox News author just made up to rile up conservatives anyway. Congrats, you fell for it hook, line and sinker.
  12. For a few months, not four years
  13. “The election was won due to fraud!!!” oh wait, that was Republicans last time

    Buying a House vs Renting

For a dwelling that is occupied for a full year, 100% yes the owner’s property taxes are being covered by the rent they are receiving. There are certainly owners that are receiving less rent than their total mortgage payment, but less than their property taxes alone is not going to happen.
  15. Of course @Strike will probably come in here and say “but Aldrich said he was non-binary, we must believe him!!!”
  16. Officer fired, criminal investigation ongoing “The administrative investigation determined the deputy’s use of deadly force was not objectively reasonable and therefore violated agency policy,” a news release from the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office stated.
  17. More homeschooling is contributing to declining public school enrollment. But most would argue the bigger issue is absenteeism and homeschooled students don’t count in absenteeism numbers. I notice the quote about “many students being afraid of being shot over sneakers” has no citation. Considering the topic is about schools, it’s interesting that you would blame this on “leftist policies.” More gun control isn’t going to reduce gang violence, but it might help reduce school shootings. Good to see you actually think school shootings are a legitimate concern though.

    Buying a House vs Renting

I didn’t say he should want to own a condo (or a home). Your reading ability doing ok? I simply said he shouldn’t compare the rent on a 2-bedroom house to the taxes on a 4-bedroom home. He has used that argument in past threads on the topic as well and it’s just as stupid now as it was then.
  19. I only recognize about 7 of these people. 3 of them are neither trans or non-binary (Anderson Aldrich, Jared Ravizza, and Genesse Moreno). Also the Asian thing on the bottom row technically hadn’t committed a violent crime (yet).

    Buying a House vs Renting

I’m not saying you should want to own a home. I’m saying you shouldn’t compare the cost of renting a 2 bedroom apartment to the taxes on a 4+ bedroom home.

    Buying a House vs Renting

My problem is you’re comparing apples and oranges. What would it cost to buy a condo comparable to your apartment?

    Buying a House vs Renting

So you live in a 1 bedroom then?

    Buying a House vs Renting

How big is your apartment, and how big is a house that has higher property taxes than your rent?
