He'll be relegated to practice squad if he doesn't make the roster. Dynasty "experts" say watch out for him next year once Williams is gone, but if he has an incredible camp or injury bug hits Denver backfield... might make an appearance this year. I've lost all faith in Williams who - 95% chance is gone next year. It's possible he returns to form off the acl (some do), or last year is just who he is now (some never get right). But now he's sharing with Estime who by late-season might get bulk of early down/goal line work if Williams hasn't improved. And based on last year, I ain't hopeful he will. At this point, the only Denver Rb I'm interested in is lotto ticket McLaughlin. The team that throws the most to Rbs, and a guy who showed impressive elusiveness last year. With a dirt cheap 11th/12th rd adp.

I think 1998 was my first year. Took Dan Marino with the final pick out of Dolphin love and respect for The Man. And remember drafting Fred Taylor due to my Gator loyalty, even though James Stewart was the Jags starter... dang if Stewart didn't get hurt and Taylor went nuts.

In ppr? I count 13 and that's only wks 1-17. Whatever... let's look at those top six Rbs from last year and pre-draft adp: 1) McCaff - 1st rd, Rb 2 4) Hall - 4th rd Rb 16 2) Etienne - 3rd rd, Rb 10 5) Williams - 15th rd, Rb 55 3) Mostert - 10th rd, Rb 37 6) R. White - 4th rd, Rb 17 No way I'm gambling 1st and 2nd round picks on that position. Wr's finish much closer to their actual adp. Edit - those rounds are based on 12-teamers.... Hall and White had adp's of 5th rd in 10-team.

If the board was flooded with repeat questions... ok. But it's July and the board is slow, so whatever. Fun to discuss anything fantasy related. And to answer the question again: Wr-Wr. C'mon Wolves, try a few ESPN and Yahoo mocks with that strategy. You'll be shocked with how many reliable Rbs you can get in the mid-rounds. Especially a 10-teamer. Why gamble with your most valuable draft capital? My big money league is 12 teams and I don't care what position I get... 90% chance I don't draft a Rb til Round 5. If it were a 10-teamer, it'd be a 100%.

One more cog in this mess.... undrafted free-agent Blake Watson. Started at Old Dominion as Wr, before switching to Rb and later transfers to Memphis. Might've been drafted if not been snubbed by combine. Solid rushing in college, but specialty is receptions being a former Wr. And of course Payton loves to throw to Rbs. Only 5'9" 189 lbs, but fast as hell. Needs a great camp to make roster, but Payton was talking up his receiving skills and "high football iq" during OTAs last month.

FFToday Mike's projection: Pickens 79 rec, 1,085 yds, 7 Tds Metcalf 79 rec, 1,085 yds, 7 Tds

Seattle finished second last among NFL teams with the fewest offensive snaps played last year. Pete Carrol's play-book was kill the clock, keep score close, win on a field goal. Zzzzzzzzzz Say hello to Ryan Grubb... gonna be lots of shifts / pre-snap motions and spread air raid. Metcalf will be the beneficiary and so will I if I'm lucky enough to draft him.

Yep, 6'4". The closest on the list 6'2" Lamb. Still impressive. He's a big easy target with a huge catch radius. Reliable hands too. His 40-yd dash time of 4.45 is also impressive for a dude that size. Faster than Lamb, St. Brown, Deebo, and AJ Brown.
-
True. Brown did well those two years. Could be argued Tannehill was Qb those years and posted passer ratings of 117.5 & 106.5. Wilson hasn't posted a 106 passer rating since 2019 and barely broke 3,000 passing yards last year. It's also tough to dismiss how badly London and Pitts performed for two years with Smith. Given all that... Pickens makes me nervous. As for Sam Howell... I've heard "experts" say don't write off his career just yet - after getting murdered behind the Redskins joke of an o-line with all his coaches waiting to get fired. So maybe he does compete with Smith for the starting job or take over eventually if Smith struggles.

Interesting stat I stumbled across... '23 Wr most broken tackles 1) Collins... 16 2) Hill, Samuel...12 4) Lamb... 11 5) St. Brown, Diggs, Wilson... 10 8)) DJ Moore, AJ Brown, Flowers... 9 Some really big names on that list and Collins bested them all by a wide margin.

Did a little Mooney research. Here's what I found: Supposed was personally recruited by Cousins who knew him from playing the Bears twice a year, so that's a good sign. Cousins signed March 11 and Mooney the next day... 3-yr $39 mil with $26 mil guaranteed. Rather high supposedly due to a shallow pool of free agent Wrs, but also shows Atlanta's belief and commitment. With the addition of DJ Moore, Mooney played more slot last year which wasn't his bag as he's been more of a mid/deep threat. He won't play slot in Atlanta, as Falcons signed Rondale Moore for that. Mooney had his best year in '21 as a softmore with rookie Fields and Andy Dalton - not surprisingly his best games were nearly always with Dalton who only started 7 games. In '22 Mooney didn't do much - missed 5 games (grd 3 ankle tear) and Fields was hot garbage. in '23 DJ signed and got most targets, followed by Kmet, with just a sad 61 targets to Mooney who also missed 2 games (concussion). Fields was lackluster as well. So one can excuse Mooney's stats to some extent. He's now in Atlanta as the #2 banana... clearly not the alpha with London commanding the bulk, Bijan will get his, so will Pitts, and some scraps to Rondale Moore. Looking at how Cousins spread the ball in Minnesota and given the target competition in Atlanta, I think the best one can expect from Mooney is about 4 receptions per game. That's 68 receptions and roughly 950 yds.... let's take a wild (optimistic) guess and say 6 Tds. That's 199 points, good for 34th last year. FFMike's projection isn't quite as optimistic... (52 rec, 732 yds, 3 Tds) or 143 pts, good for 50th last year. Either way, decent value for adp Wr 73. As for "he could even register more ff points than London".... pass the bong.

I'm not so much down on Pickens, but moreso I'm so bullish on DK. Pickens had shockingly great stats last year especially considering the Qb situation. Problem is I'm not sure that Qb play improves much and even if it does... Arthur Smith = receiving fantasy death. Still, I can't totally forget how amazingly good Pickens was with bad Qb play. So I won't be shocked if I'm wrong on him. On the flip side, DK has a new up-tempo pass-friendly o-coordinator in town. I fully expect his stats to massively increase. Geno Smith isn't the greatest, but proved in '22 he can get the job done. We shall see.

Didn't even realize McBride was available... still think you made the right pick. Not a McBride fan either, but surprising he fell that far.

Awesome. Let's all congratulate / mock Ray_T on his picks: 1) T. Henry 2) S. Barkley .............................. Mother of pearl, this hurts my soul. I'll give ya Nacua is the last-of-the-last appealing Wrs, but I still would've taken him and D. London next (I'm Wr-Wr til death do us part) but whatever. Barkley!?! Ya know my thoughts. I think Taylor is way more appealing than both of those Rbs. 3) G. Pickens 4) J. Waddle ......................... Love Waddle. Definitely would've taken DK Metcalf over Pickens, and it's not even close. 5) G. Kittle 6) D. Swift .......................... Kittle is fantastic. Swift... ugh. Would've reached for Z. Moss instead. Give 'em hell Ray!

That was if I was insane enough to draft 2 Rbs at the turn... despite being a 10 teamer ppr league. I think it's bananas, but to each their own. You have to get incredibly lucky just to pick 1 Rb correctly, let alone 2.
-
I know this is a "Top Wr thread" and this guy isn't flashy or fun to talk about, but screw it: Adp Wr 49) J Meyers 16 games, 71 rec, 807 yds, 8 Tds.... finished Wr 31 with 197.0 pts (ppr wk 1-17) That was with really bad qb play from rookie O'Connell / Garoppolo, not to mention missing a game. Yes, Tds can be fluky. What if he hypothetically had no Tds last year? 149 pts or Wr 45. He's Wr 49 going in double-digit rounds. You'd be hard pressed to find better Wr value in the 11th+ rounds. I expect much improved Qb play from 2nd year O'Connell and Minshew who flashed in several games last year. Food for thought.
-
Wr-Wr But for the sake of this thread... I'd draft Taylor and Williams from that list. Ya know my feelings about Barkley and Gibbs. My issue with Henry is the age/millage and lack of receptions. He'll have some spike games with 2+ Tds... along with several weeks of 40 yds and a cloud of dust. And there's always the decline/injury risk of an old over-worked Rb.

When Bowers went to Georgia in '21 as a true freshman, the team was loaded with NFL-grade players like George Pickens, Lad McConkey, Jermain Burton, Adonai Mitchell, James Cook, Darnell Washington... Bowers pushed all those guys aside and went on to lead the team in receptions/yards. Did it again in '22. Did it again in '23... despite missing two games with a grade 3 ankle sprain which caused him to return at less than full strength. Georgia would also do different stuff like bring him in the backfield... finished with 19 carries over his three seasons - which turned into 193 rushing yards and 5 Tds. Georgia coach Kirby Smart once said "if they'd shifted Bowers to Rb, he probably would've been the best Rb they had" - mind you they had James Cook and Zamir White. Scouting guru: It's just incredible - his vision, agility and speed to take it to the house. He's a tackle-breaking machine, even better than Senate and LaPorta. People think ya have to call him a Te just with the position designation, so in their heads they start to think of Kyle Pitts. But it's different with Kyle Pitts who's the big guy that you send down the seam and that was the utility. That's dependent on other players on the field. Brock Bowers is dependent on nobody else. He's idiot proof. I heard people saying "Oh, Raiders o-coordinator is a dope." Doesn't matter. He's going to make that guy look smart and he's gonna make Gardner Minshew look like a better quarterback, because all you have to do is just shuttle the ball off to Bower short. He will take care of the rest, just like he did throughout his career, from the day he stepped foot onto those colossus Georgia teams in the middle of their dynasty. I'm getting horny

Strange stat: Love had 4,159 passing yards - solid. Yet only twice did a Packers Wr have 100+ receiving yards... and neither helped your fantasy team. Bo Melton Wk 17 and Jayden Reed Wk 18.

Even if the article is bs and both Williams - Perine make the roster... that only complicates the fantasy world. In all probability, the Broncos aren't resigning Williams next year which probably means a Williams/Estime committee. Along with a 4-way split of receptions. The Broncos threw more passes to Rbs than any team last year. It's Payton's thing and with Bo Nix (short-pass guru) it's going to happen again. Would be nice if they weren't spread so thin among all the Rbs.
-
The Bronco's reporter said Williams and Perine were fighting for one roster spot... which I guess is true. But Williams is likely competing against Estime. Needs to prove he can be a more effective runner and vastly improve on his poor passing blocking - which Perine supposedly does well. That's the big knock on McLaughlin... impressive metrics with elusiveness, breakaways, and yards created, etc. but his pass-blocking supposedly stunk which is why he was hardly on the field during most passing-blocking plays. Not surprising at 5'8" 187 lbs. '23 Pass-block snap count: Perine (52), Williams (43), McLaughlin (5)

I'm not a big "tier guy" ... just like who I like. But I do consider Hill, Chase, Lamb and St. Brown to be the best-of-the-best picks of this draft. After that I'd be happy with Wilson, Brown Jefferson, and Nacua. It's the final two on that list that scare me... Adams and Harrison. I've flip flopped between Adams, London and Ayuik in mocks in the 2nd rd... not really loving any. Not sure where I'll end up on that ranking. But Harrison - I'm not willing to be among the first in ff history to draft a rookie Wr top 10, particularly on a sub-par Cards team. Even when your early Wr fails to live up to expectation, it's rarely as disastrous as with Rbs. They usually still finish inside top 20+-. But the Harrison pick feels like he could badly disappoint. This is uncharted territory - no rookie Wr has ever been drafted this high. Might prove me wrong, but feels risky. I don't like to gamble with my early picks.

I agree with the "thunder and lighting" thinking for Payton - Ingram & Kamara reboot. I'm still not sure who gets cut... Williams or Perine. Surprising they don't just trade Williams to Dallas for scraps, rather than cut. If Williams does make the team, that complicates things with Estime - then they'd split early down work and goal line. The Broncos threw more to Rbs than any team last year, so clearly Payton wants a Kamara type player. McLaughlin seems to be the best candidate for that job with excellent metrics last year and if he is Peyton's chosen one - could have 60+ receptions, if not more depending how successful they are. Bo Nix loved the short passes in college which helps and possibly why Payton drafted him. At this point in the cluster-mess, I'm leaning McLaughlin. Even if Williams is gone, I want the guy getting consistent receptions. And the adp is dirt cheap.

Allen is ranked Qb 1 and it does seem lofty given the changes. I'd prefer Hurts or Mahomes, but I still have Allen 3rd. True they lost Diggs and Davis, but Diggs faded badly in the second half and Davis didn't do much all year... yet Allen still finished Qb 1. Buffalo still has Kincaid, Knox and I suspect Cooks gets more receptions. And they brought in several complimentary Wrs. Bills have a difficult schedule against the pass, but I don't put much stock in SOS with data based on the prior year and given player turnover. Besides Allen does a lot of his damage rushing. Purdy is ranked Qb 11. Finished Qb 6 last year and not much changed in SF. The only thing... look at his stats in 16 games - 4,300 pass yds, 33 total Tds, a spectacular passer rating of 113.0 (dump offs to McCaff helped). I can't see a world where he improves on that, and might not replicate it. He's not considered the best pocket passer and isn't known for arm strength - just has incredible awareness... and surrounded by amazing talent. Considering what he did Qb 11 is probably low, but I'd be surprised if he broke top 5. Jefferson is ranked Wr 5 so there's a small discount baked into his adp for the Qb change. I'd prefer a little more discount for that, along with the hamstring which was serious enough to cause him to miss 7 games. If Jefferson gets insane targets (and he probably will) and stays healthy, he should finish Wr 10+-. Look what old-man Adams did (Wr 11) with terrible Qb play in Vegas.

Just Ignore the Media Experts: They Have No Clue
GobbleDog replied to wolves111's topic in FFToday Board
Youtube fantasy experts - too many "I just sorta feel..." takes. Short on data points backing it up. Talk metrics or team situations, personnel, coaching schemes, pertinent historical data, etc. Compelling reasons why I should or shouldn't draft a player. Their gut feelings don't hold water. But they get clicks, which is what they want and I'm a sucker for fantasy football opinions so I click - usually leave unimpressed.
