Ok just Youtubed it... I remember Lange and he's good, but wasn't the one I was thinking of - apparently it was Mike Emrick. Don't know why I associated him with Penguins, but in any case Emrick is the greatest.

Bet a little money on the game, so I'm streaming it... and quickly realize - the play-by-play announcer is the worst hockey announcer I've ever heard. After Google searches apparently his name is Jack Edwards... whoever that is. It's hockey, ya have to talk really fast to keep up with the passes and shots. Not Jack Edwards. Doesn't name half the players passing it around because he can't keep up and 20 seconds after the shot he finally says "and that shot went wide" yeah, we know. We saw it 20 seconds ago. Anyone else watching? It's carried by "NESN." I'm not a hockey buff, but I from what I remember the guy who used to call the Penguins games was my all-time fav.

March Madness does nothing for me any more. Likely will not watch a single game
GobbleDog replied to edjr's topic in The Geek Club
Took the day off work and been watching since 12:00 streaming to numerous monitors and a big-screen TV. Can't get enough. Even if I didn't gamble on the games, I'd still love it, and I despise the NBA. Something special about the opening two days of March Madness. Upsets, and buzzer beaters left and right. -
Harsher penalites are the only way to reduce crime. Prove me wrong.
GobbleDog replied to tubby_mcgee's topic in The Geek Club
Agreed, it's always been the cost of doing business. The penalty should be you're permanently out of business. That'd stop it. -

Then you should be most concerned with reducing poverty. -

Costs more to execute. Want to limit appeals and make it cheaper, fine wrongful executions increases. How many can you stomach? Family members of the condemned didn't do anything wrong, yet they lose a father/son/brother etc. More innocent families in misery is a good idea? And for what? Capital punishment has no deterrence. Nobody ever thought "I'd kill him, if it were only life in prison, but that death penalty is too much... oh well." Then there's state-sanctioned executions - ya think the US should be on the most state executions list with China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iraq, etc? That's the mentality of those countries. The old "just kill 'em after they're found guilty" acting like a tough guy on crime. Ain't much thought behind it. I do support long prison sentences for violent crime, though the US already has some of the harshest penalties in the world. -
ESPN’s Latest Trick to Shove The Women’s Game Down Our Throats
GobbleDog replied to Patented Phil's topic in The Geek Club
I don't get ESPN so haven't noticed, but meh... let the lady's have a little spot-light. It's technically sports so it doesn't bother me when it's mentioned in sports reporting. What I have noticed is all the women sports-casters calling basketball/football games.... ugh. The networks have to know they sound awful, but do it anyway. I guess they're hoping it'll someday sound normal and maybe it will, but for now it sucks. -
Apparently, it's 10 years old, but just found this one the other day... good stuff.

Taco Bell locations in Oakland are forced to CLOSE dining rooms indefinitely - Proud boys strike again!
GobbleDog replied to Cdub100's topic in The Geek Club
The company that owns those Taco Bell's ... "Diversified Restaurant Group." Ironic. I predict someday the black community will file class action law-suits against fast food corps. Don't know how successful it'll be, but their argument will (correctly) be they're specifically targeted in advertising - particularly the young, most stores are located in low-income areas, and they knowingly serve poison - loaded with sugar to hook customers. 'Have it your way' Burger King ... black man, some rapping, catchy jingle. I picture BK's executives hearing it for the first time and thinking "that's perfect, the target demographic will love it." -
While we're on a music discussion, I gotta rant. R & B - "rhythm and blues" .... BB King sang the blues. Zeppelin played rock 'n roll blues. Etc. The modern garbage on the radio which labels itself R&B is as far from blues music as possible.

He was funny in Men In Tights... beyond that... meh. Mildly amusing on Curb, I'll give him that. Overall he seemed like a germaphoic creep who thought he was a bigger star than he really was.

To be fair, she didn't know who Styx was until I played a few songs - which she knew, but still didn't like them. She did say most people at the concert seemed more excited when Styx entered the stage, than REO. Just not her.

Watching a lot of Film Noir lately. Saw Touch of Evil (1958) recently which was a really weird flick, but Orson Welles was absolutely amazing. Made me want to watch another Welles film so of course I watched his most famous - Citizen Kane (1941)... talk about a snooze fest. Welles was good, but the story wasn't too interesting. Don't know why people rave about it. My all time favorit - Key Largo (1948) with Bogart and Edward G. Robinson. Partly because I relate to the old Florida setting and hurricanes, but also because Robinson is the greatest gangsta ever. What ya got?

Are There Any Comedians That are Funny Anymore ? (Stand Up)
GobbleDog replied to BeenHereBefore's topic in The Geek Club
Gulman was really good years back. Haven't heard his new stuff, but I'm a fan. I used to say Dave Attell was one of the best... then I heard his racist dinosaur special. Ugh... also needs to stop yelling. -

He wore on me. Long build-up to a dark punchline. Over and over. Some punchlines were funny, but the style got old. -

My wife has Sirius in her car with 8 comedy stations. I flip back and forth... eventually hear a funny joke... then back to flipping. Turns out the vast majority of stand-up comedians are awful. Then again, some people laugh at everything. I'm harder to please.
