    Treylon Burks Knee Injury

"We love ya Tannehill..." 2022 3rd rd Malik Willis "We still love ya..." 2023 early-2nd rd Will Levis Tannehill has a choke chain around his neck, not a leash. Better not start slow or changes be a coming. Which probably wouldn't be good for Hopkins or Burks.
  4. Most rookie Qbs at least proved they could beat defenses in college. Richardson only proved he could run. As a Gator fan I'm rooting for him. But 4th overall stunned me.
  5. Taylor or no Taylor, I foresee a lot of stacked box defenses. "Go ahead throw it rookie - we dare ya." Richardson's 12 starts (only started 13 total) at UF last year... 53.8% comp. Average distance 7.8 yds. 17 td / 9 int. Against the likes of South Florida, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Eastern Washington, etc. #4 overall pick... ? Guess that's why I'm not a gm.

    Zero RB / Anchor RB

I don't know what he did in college, but his two years in the NFL he averaged 0.9 targets per game - both seasons. Either the Bears don't think he can catch or they just don't play that style football.
  7. Aside from that 4/5 turn issue, this has to be the hardest year ever from the #1 spot due to the Rb landscape. Years prior the 1 spot was coveted for that bell-cow mega point stud with few warts. The days of Peterson, Faulk, Holmes, Thomlinson, etc. This year your options are injury prone McCaff or Ekeler - who I like, but 1st overall feels early. Last year he was phenomenal with 18 Tds and 107 rec. Tds are always fluky and those receptions won't likely get repeated since Rams sacked their dink and dunk OC. Ekeler is also 28. So instead ya opt for the safety of Jefferson or whoever. But now ya gets the Rb crumbs in rd 2. I find out my position in a few days. If I get #1, I'm offering a straight up trade to anyone who'll swap. I'm sure I'll find a taker.
  8. Agreed. Perfect example - I posted in the "drafting 1st" thread, my mocks indicate the hardest part about the 1 position is if you don't take a Rb at the 4/5 turn, the last of the decent starting Rbs (Dobbins, Pacheco, White, Conner, etc.) generally dries up as it snakes back to you in the 6th round. From mid/late positions, you can generally rely on one being there, but not from the 1st. So, in later mocks I felt compelled to take a Rb at the 4/5 turn, rather than Wrs I like.
  9. I suggested Burrow or Herbert in the 4th, but when he asked about Lawrence's availability in the 5th, I assured him he'd be there because 95% of the time he is. But 5% happened. Perfect example of the sage advice - draft your players. Don't focus too much playing the adp game and miss gems. Though his scoring doesn't have pass yardage bonuses or completion points (yes some leagues have that), so not a total tragedy. ETA - I get your point now. The order of taking Lawrence before Burrow and Herbert was shocking. Never seen that in any of my mocks.

    Zero RB / Anchor RB

Feel like I got a good bead on Cook... lots of receptions, some yardage, scarce Tds. Sorta like Swift. Herbert is the enigma. I've heard conflicting opinions whether Bears 4th rd pick Roschon Johnson steals the job outright. Even if Herbert (former 6th rd pick) keeps the job, he doesn't catch. So we're left with rushing yards and Tds, after Fields steals some rushes and Tds of course. Herbert is an efficient runner, I'll give him that much.

    Jameson Williams Hamstring injury

Read that too, which I think came after the original comment (agent idea maybe). In any case, sounds like he's trying to do both - "I didn't know, but it's my fault." He should drop the "I didn't know" stuff because if that's true, he looks really dumb. Even tries to minimize his ignorance by saying - other players didn't know either. Maybe, but I'd guess 99% of all NFL players do know. Most people who've never even played college or professional sports know player gambling is taboo. But somehow, not Jameson.

    2023 Bold Predictions

Agree. Davis should finish way higher than Wr 80. That's a bit ridiculous. But he sure gets dinged up... hasn't played a full season since 2018. Even if he plays all year, as the #3 Wr he'll probably be very inconsistent.

    Top 5 WRs for 2023

Jeudy is one I'm unsure about. Good receiver, but the elephant in the room is Wilson... lowest completion rate and passing rate of career. But still threw a deep accurate ball. I've read much of Wilson's problem was holding the ball too long (setting up deep throws) and getting into pressure trouble. My eyeball take on Wilson in Seattle was he always played by the seat of his pants, turning broken plays into winners. Play after play, year after year - quite amazing. Never a big yardage guy. Then wheels fell off last year. My wild guess is Jeudy probably finishes around his adp Wr 20+- given decent stats last year in spite of everything. But at this point I need to know last year wasn't the beginning of the end for Wilson before projecting Jeudy into top 10, let alone 5. We shall see... I like Ridley especially if Lawrence takes a massive leap like many expect, including me. But nobody really knows what we'll get from Ridley after away so long. One of the more high risk/high reward picks.

    Top 5 WRs for 2023

Burrow had a "calf strain" which sounded like nothing at first... til they said Week 1 was in jeopardy. Latest reports from training camp sound encouraging, but still not practicing. I'll see where things stand before my draft in two weeks, but my guess is he'll be fine. Considering how many hits Cousin's has taken for 3 straight years (why can't they fix that o-line?), he might be the one we have to worry about.

    Zero RB / Anchor RB

Great advice I once heard - draft your players. Don't over think adp and pass on players you like because they're supposed to go the following round. That's a strategy for those who've done no meaningful research. If you're confident in player evaluations, draft them! Obviously I'll wait if I know they'll fall, but when I don't - I shamelessly reach. Taboo in ff, but don’t sweat it for a measly round. I didn’t waste time analyzing metrics, mock drafting and listing to opinions, just to lose out on gems playing the adp game. Draft your players.

    2023 Bold Predictions

Wr 80 ... to top 10 That's about as bold as it gets. I'm guessing you play the lottery and don't care about boring odds like 100 mill to 1.

    Zero RB / Anchor RB

Time to break it. Rb's are the most volatile position in ff (injury / under performance). Investing your most valuable draft capital (1st rd pick) in that position is risky. Years prior it was justified with bell cows. Less so in today's NFL. That said, I'm not married to any strategy. I'll draft a Rb 1st (Ekeler) and 2nd rd too if I think the value is too good to pass up. After countless mocks from every spot, I do have a general plan (Wr-Rb-Wr-Qb) - designed for my league's particular scoring, but it's dependent on certain players available at certain points. When players I like are gone, I pivot. Some mocks I was forced into zero Rb early because one's I liked were taken. I won't just draft any player for the sake of filling positions.

    Top 5 WRs for 2023

Let's discuss St. Brown - tackled inside five-yard line 7 times and still had six Tds. He'd be everyone's top 5 if he'd scored the others. Entering 3rd year, same qb, improved team, I'm buying. Wilson - crazy talent displayed his rookie year with bad Qbs. I'm banking (here's the scary part) Rodgers problems last year were injury and/or team related. Wilson could be Devante Adams 2.0. AJ Brown - my #7 and think he's one of the safer options. Mr. Consistent, no matter the team or qb. And not just each season, each week - very few dips. He's only 26 (peak time) and the Eagles haven't changed a bit. Could be higher ranked, but Eagles have a lot of mouths to feed. So I do like Brown, not so much D Smith, but that's another discussion. Cooper - did ya see Watson last year... ugh. Reports out of camp aren't good either. Stinks for Cooper because he's a great Wr, but I see better options. Evans - top 5? C'mon now. His adp is actually decent value. But Mayfield and possible Bucs tank mode might limit Evans (not to mention age). Allen - likely his final year before Canton. Injuries becoming a concern, and older Wr's - even the greats, after they lose enough speed and separation, they go down hill quick. Don't know if that's happened yet, but feels risky. Deebo - Ok ya named one I'm perplexed. He's THE MOST ELECTRIC player in the NFL. Look at the yac metrics, absolutely sick. But he doesn't get the downfield stuff. It's short targets and gadget plays. Some of that may have been Garoppolo's noodle arm, but even the few games with Purdy still short. Niners are a bit run-first too. But he's so damn electric! If he finishes top 5 I wouldn't be shocked. Waddle - tough to make top 5 as the #2 banana, even with Waddle's great talent. I do like his adp though. Sorta banking on Tua staying healthy, which he probably will, but there's risk. Lamb - I'd like him a lot more if Dallas hadn't fired OC Moore. Now I don't know what to expect from Dak or Lamb. What the heck, let's keep going - the two ya didn't mention. Diggs - my #6 Wr. Hate the rumors that him and Allen ain't friendly. But whatever. They both did well last year and nothing changed team wise. Adams - blew up last year connecting with Carr's deep passes. Guess what Garoppolo isn't good at? Also worried Vegas is in tank mode. Seems Adams thinks so too as rumors surfaced of him wanting out - though nothing specific said. At his adp, no thanks.

    Jameson Williams Hamstring injury

I don't care about the gambling either, but he shouldn't have said "I was unaware of the NFL gambling policy." If that's true he looks like an idiot. If it isn't true he looks like a liar. Or he could just own up to it and look like a man. He chose option one.
  20. "Talent wise" every team could use Taylor. But it doesn't work for my Dolphins. Goodell took our '23 first rd pick (tampering) along with our '24 third rd pick, and we traded our fourth rd pick. So giving up a first next year doesn't seem smart. Then there's the money. Hill's cap hit next year blows up to $31 mill. If Tua plays well, he'll be signed to a giant long-term deal. And there's some defensive players who are about to become very expensive. We'd be way better off just signing Hunt to a 1 year deal.

    Geek meat with gobbledog

My confidence has been restored in old timer Geeks, so I'm in. Interestingly, Cdubb and I talked about that infamous thread. I originally started it innocently saying "Here's a strange email telling me to stop posting off-color jokes in some fish forum". Minutes later.... "Let's jihad!" and everyone did despite my protests. Dang if they didn't ban me too.

    Geek meat with gobbledog

23+ years here, never met a Geek, but I figured anyone who’s been here as long as me must be somewhat stable. I got damn lucky it turned out to be a normal/interesting person like Cdub. We had some drinks at the hotel bar. First off, he doesn’t look anything like his avatar. He’s an athletic stocky dude who could kick every Geek’s ass here. Talked sports, family, work and little politics. Both republican, but he’s not a political nut who makes it his identity or takes it personally. As a true republican he surely disagreed with my accidental “gun control” slip during my ramblings, but he took a sip of bourbon and said nothing. Talked a bit of Geek club history... from the early days including 9/11 threads, to Latin Pimp, to modern times. Clued me in to how many aliases there are. Way more than I suspected. (hello rusty syringes) Prior to the Meat, we were both probably thinking (if this dude is weird – I’m out quick), but we hung out for over two hours til the wives started texting. He even insisted on picking up the beer tab. Chances of Meating another geek like him… slim, but he restored faith in Geek humanity. Thanks for the brews Cdub! Next time they’re on me.
  23. Sorta indicates Colts see the hold-out threat as more than just a bluff. So will any team trade a 1st rd pick for a Rb who'll demand a long-term deal.?. Otherwise, it's just a one year rental for a 1st rounder. If he does get traded, hope it's sooner rather than later. Denver or Cincinnati could use help. Surprising neither has signed Hunt who won't require a long term deal.

    Where is Bijan Robinson drafted?

Head coach Arthur Smith recently: "We may have the idea we want to get guys a certain number of carries, and then all of a sudden Allgeier gets a hot hand, and what you're doing with him is working. Don't be rigid. We have to win the game." Can't get mad at Arthur Smith if Bijan doesn't get the massive workload ya excepted.
