Can somebody HELP me out????

Recommended Posts

When I input my league's scoring system and then Compiler creates my overall list, TEs Shockey, Gonzo, and Heap are coming up #s 22, 25, & 27. Obviously, these guys should not be going that high so I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong. Any help is appreciated.

Also, hey Mike, when are the updated rankings going to come out given this weekend's carnage?

My league's offensive scoring is as follows:

1 pt for every 24 yards receiving/rushing

6 pts for every rushing/receiving TD

1 pt for every 49 yards passing

4 pts for every passing TD

I'll answer the easy part of your question first. Updates rankings will come out on Thursdays. As far as your overall list, how many teams are in the league and how many starters and backups does your league require, do you combine the WR/TE position?

Thanks Chewy. We have 10 teams and start

1 QB

2 RB

2 WR

1 TE

1 K

1 D.

The TE's are separate from WRs. There is no special scoring "bumps" for the TE position either. I just can't figure out why they are ranked so high. From everything I've read, taking them that high would be close to commiting fantasy heresy.

Inputting your scoring system and starting line up (without changing the number of backups) I came up with Shockey @ 27, Gonzalez @ 30, and Heap @ 36. I drafted Gonzalez 28th overall in my 10 team league so the numbers seem to be close. The number of backups at each position changes where these guys fall in the overall rankings. Also if you're not happy with where they are ranked you can lower the baseline numbers to decrease the emphasis on your TE's.

Hope this helps.

Hey UNLV, what overall ranking method are you using? Compiler Recommended. I wouldn't have thought they would be that high. High, but still in the 30-40 range.

Mike, I'm using the Compiler Recommended. and I just re-rean the compile cheatsheet and the TE's are at the same 22, 25 & 27 and we have for backups

1 qb

2 rb

2 wr

1 te

1 k

1 d

This one is driving me crazy  .... I came up with different numbers then the last time I ran your numbers, unfortunately it was something like Shockey #20, Gonzalez #24, and Heap #25. I'm thinking your best bet is going to be to adjust the TE baseline numbers a little lower to take a little bit of emphasis off the position.

Here is what I've got. The results are slightly different, so we have something a bit different. Perhaps the way the backups are chosen.

26 QB Rich Gannon OAK 8 203.2 26.6

27 QB Brett Favre GB 8 201.3 24.8

28 WR Joe Horn NO 10 111.5 24.5

29 TE Tony Gonzalez KC 9 67.7 20.1

30 TE Todd Heap BAL 5 65.7 18.1

31 QB Steve McNair TEN 9 193.5 17.0

32 RB Curtis Martin NYJ 5 113.2 16.5

33 RB William Green CLE 9 112.1 15.4

34 RB Stephen Davis CAR 3 112.0 15.3

35 WR Eric Moulds BUF 9 102.3 15.3

37 WR Torry Holt STL 5 99.3 12.2

38 RB Warrick Dunn ATL 8 108.3 11.5

39 WR Donald Driver GB 8 97.6 10.6

40 QB Matt Hasselbeck SEA 4 186.2 9.7

The key thing to remember unlvlawyer is that IF you can get a player later than you have him ranked, then most definitely do it. For your league, being 10 teams, Shockey, Gonzo and Heap are coming in as 3rd round picks values.

Looking in Draft Buddy on the ADP tab, the average draft position for these guys is:

Rank Pos Player Team ADP High Low

32 TE Jeremy Shockey NYG 4.01 3.03   5.01

33 WR Koren Robinson SEA 4.03 3.00   5.03

34 TE Tony Gonzalez KC 4.05 4.01   5.05

35 QB Peyton Manning IND 4.05 3.02   5.09

36 WR Amani Toomer NYG 4.06 4.01   5.01

37 WR Peerless Price ATL 4.07 3.03   5.06

38 WR Donald Driver GB 4.09 4.00   5.04

39 TE Todd Heap BAL 5.01 4.03   6.04

So, Gonzo according to this has never gone before the 4th round and sometimes lasts to the 5th. Therefore, do not take him in the 3rd. If you can get him in the 4th, then grab him there, and then you know you got a really good value player at that pick.

Note, I think the reason TE are a little higher here than standard is because you only start 2 WR instead of 3 as most leagues do. In start 3 WR leagues, the top WR will be more valuable, and would move up the rankings while bumping these guys down a little bit more.

Well I appreciate all of your input on this one. I'm going to just keep in mind the draft buddy ADP function...I still haven't fiddled around with draft buddy yet, since my draft is still 2 weeks away. Again, I appreciate the help.
