Zap 0 Posted September 18, 2003 What no comments after all my efforts? Here's a few. Where's the big three WRs? Marshall, LT2... hello? The qb rankings validate the "late qb theory". Manning, Warner, Donovan?? I'm still bitter about Coles. Diesel, just know you only have him because I was in flight and couldn't get my draft list updated. Who did I get instead? Gonzo. Nice to see him high on the TE chart.
t.j 35 Posted September 18, 2003 Zap: What no comments after all my efforts? I commented on the total defense thread, after that I wanted to wait and see some other people make some comments since it seems I am the only one who replies to half the threads on this bored! LT2 will come around, the Chargers got whupped by two far superior teams so far and he will get more carries in future games. Faulk was simply not a top 6 IMO, I know several of you had him top 2 or close to that, I'm not surprised he's not in there right now, although I'd be surprised if he weren't top 10 by season's end. Oh, and to be fair, Faulk also has been the victim of a tough schedule so far. I agree that the late QB theory has been validated to this point, and it gets validated just about every season. Daunte looks like the one guy worth an early pick right now. Which I hate to say because I had been down on him and traded him away in my other league. I wanted Hasselbeck (I got him in my other league) but I can't complain about my results at all right now, with a 9th-rounder and a 20th-rounder 5th and 6th. Although, like with several of my positions, I fear I will start the wrong QB a lot of times this year. Here's the big question. Do I bench Shannon Sharpe this week? I hate to start him against the Raiders!!!!!! I am thinking of not starting a TE this week, as I don't want to drop anybody to pick up someone else. Then again, instead of just benching him and starting nobody, I could start him and still root 100% against him, as getting something out of him is better than him scoring on the Raiders and not scoring for me. ARGH! I am definitely benching Al Wilson though.
Zap 0 Posted September 18, 2003 Doood, if this were a money league, you'd be stupido for benching either of them. I guess a bragging rights league gives you some leeway for Raiderhomerismistic lineupping, but who you start really doesn't effect how they play, and certainly shouldn't effect your rooting interests. You cannot possibly be that faint of heart towards your Raiders. Start Wilson. Start Sharpe. Enjoy the game.
t.j 35 Posted September 18, 2003 FF is supposed to be fun. If I'm down a few points, I'm not going to enjoy rooting for Wilson to pick off a pass or for Sharpe to break those tackles to get into the end zone instead of going down at the 10. Ya know? I'm not faint of heart about the Raiders at all, that has no relevance.

I'm not faint of heart about the Raiders at all, that has no relevance. If you're down a few points and the inclusion of Sharpe or Wilson on Sharks causes you to start rooting for them against Oakland, then that is what I meant by faint of heart. Perhaps not the best wording I could come up with, but that is what I was addressing. I could give a flip about a fantasy player performing well against Dallas while on Prozac, but that won't stop me from starting him if he is my best option. I have come full term to the realization that no matter how hard I root/cheer/yell, it really has no effect on how the players do. I think you're being a little egocentric if not egomaniacal if not faint of heart about this. eek! My main point is, starting someone against Dallas is forgotten at kickoff and not remembered til the stats are tallied. I'm either very strong of eart in my loyalty or very absentminded.

Let me put it this way: If I bench my Broncos I don't have to root against my fantasy players on Monday Night. I thought of all people you would understand. You used to have a rule that you didn't start players against the Cowboys. If not being able to forget my fantasy team on Monday Night is a bad thing, then so be it. I'm going to be rooting extra hard for Rice. I don't see how I could do that and at the same time not remember if I started Wilson.
Diesel07 0 Posted September 18, 2003 How am i lucky? Thats not my fault you weren't prepared to grab him. You shoulda known who was available in what round, because i did. Thats what FF is all about, grabbing players in the right round. Everyone was talking so negaitvely about Coles in the pre-season i just laughed. Especially at the ones that said "Coles biggest bust of 03", "Gardern #1, Coles #2" or whatever they were.

You used to have a rule that you didn't start players against the Cowboys. Yes, but that when I told you that in the mid 90s, I was already changing my thinking and coming to the realization that my rooting interest didn't change things. Besides, it was good strategy not to start anyone against the early 90s Boys. I'm just saying, go with your best options, whatever they may be, and whoever they may play. In the end I think that is the most fun anyway. "Dambyou Sharpe! Thanks!" Maybe if Dallas was still a Super Bowl contender, and I had those kind of hopes I would still feel differently?? I honestly don't know, but it won't bother me a bit to start someone against Dallas anymore. I just won't sit there and hope they do good for my fantasy team. Which would be an interesting topic for a thread of its own.

I had Coles in the top 10 on my wr board. Shoot, I had him ahead of Ward! It wasn't a lack of preparation or not knowing he was available. It was the unfortunate situation of shotgunning a list to t.j because I had to travel. Had I been home looking at my sheets, I'd have taken Coles. Had I got online before my pick came up, I'd have taken Coles. I think what I'm bitter about is that I really projected him high, and I have him in my other two leagues. Here, where I could most use him, I HAVE GONZO! Waaawaawaaa. I'm still going to beat your arse.
t.j 35 Posted September 18, 2003 Well Zap, I believe you answered my question, which was should I start Sharpe. wink Thanks for your long-winded answer! I'm still benching Al "your ass is grass" Wilson though!
Diesel07 0 Posted September 18, 2003 Haha, ok i misunderstood you than. C.J. and Coles were neck & neck on my imaginary cheat sheet i keep in my head. I was just so surprised people passed him up, especially with him in a fun n gun offense. I dont even think a starting WR in that lineup can suck. Just a little fact you may have not known zap. Coles was recruited by FSU due to his achievements in track. He didn't play Highschool football.
Sisters of No Mercy 0 Posted September 19, 2003 T.J., yer worried about startin' Shannon Sharpe against tha Raiduh's....I gotta start Portis. Not even thinkin' twice about it....praying for a huge point total on both sides of the ball...with the RRRRRRRRRaiduh's coming out on top, of course.
t.j 35 Posted September 22, 2003 See? See? Sharpe gets that catch and run and I'm thinking dammit Shannon if you pulled the ball back at the last second and don't get the TD and then Portis runs it in from the one-inch line I am gonna be pissed!! And then Shannon gets the TD and I feel bad about momentarily feeling relieved that he got it in. I guess I'm glad I started him, I now have a commanding lead (more than 2 pts and Ray has no players left), but...
Zap 0 Posted September 22, 2003 Yes, I see. You did the right thing. Would you have felt better having him on the bench? He was scoring either way. The defending AFC champs look awful and have since pre-season. Even the Bungles whipped them up and down the field, just not on the scoreboard. Jake Plummer is replacing Aaron Brooks for Prozac. The Broncos are the best team in the NFL. Better than the Chiefs.
