EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - The New York Giants placed linebacker Barrett Green on injured reserve Wednesday.

Green started nine games in 2004 but missed most of the rest of the season with a torn left ACL and a left ankle injury. He had surgery in January and appeared in one game this season. His ankle had been bothering him recently, and he underwent tests this week.

"There was no conclusion drawn as to what they were going to do immediately," coach Tom Coughlin said. "It seems as if there was more extensive review and work to be done, and the timing is just not very good for us to continue to wait."

To fill Green's spot on the roster, the Giants signed Alonzo Jackson, a third-year pro out of Florida State who spent 2003 and 2004 with Pittsburgh and appeared in one game with Philadelphia this season.

The Giants linebacking corps could also be without starter Carlos Emmons for Sunday's game against Washington. An MRI this week revealed that Emmons has a slight tear in his right pectoral muscle, the linebacker said. Emmons did not practice Wednesday.

Wide receiver Plaxico Burress, the team's leading receiver with 30 catches, also missed practice with a sore right shoulder he injured in the final moments of last Sunday's 24-23 win over Denver. Burress and Emmons are both considered day-to-day, as is wide receiver David Tyree, who missed practice with an elbow injury.
