How about the Ravens' Injuries? Ouch....I don't think there are many teams who lost better players. Now their offense will have to do that much better.....

Oh, wait.......

Broncos quarterback Jake Plummer has spent much of the week dealing with pain in his left (non-throwing) shoulder. He has been listed on the team injury report but didn't miss practice time.

"It hurts, sure, but it's my left one," said Plummer, who was injured in the fourth quarter Sunday against the New York -Giants. "I'm fine. Ready to go."

QBs in question: Saban was quick to correct a reporter who could barely finish a question Friday about the Dolphins' quarterback situation. The reporter, attempting to ask how Saban would deal with an in-game change at quarterback, prefaced the question by saying, "You've said already that Gus Frerotte is your guy... "

"I didn't say that Frerotte was my guy," Saban interrupted. "You are saying that Frerotte is my guy based on me not wanting to go down the slippery slope of letting (reporters) create a quarterback controversy. I say that everybody on the team has a responsibility and obligation to do their job well... if that doesn't happen, we would consider the competition and put ourselves in the best chance to be successful down the road."

Quarterback controversy, anyone?

Two kickers? Olindo Mare, who has a sore knee, may restrict his duties Sunday to simply kicking field goals and extra points. Saban had not decided whether he would activate kicker Jeff Chandler, who was signed to the practice squad Sunday.

Joe Gibbs said yesterday a decision on who will kick for the Washington Redskins tomorrow against the New York Giants likely will be made close to game time.

John Hall has been sidelined since injuring his quadriceps in the Redskins' Week 1 win over Chicago but has been practicing since Oct. 22. Rookie Nick Novak has kicked in the last five games.

"The week went pretty smoothly and we'll probably do it at the last minute," Gibbs said.

The week's first official injury report listed Williams as questionable for Sunday's game between the Bucs (5-1) and host San Francisco (1-5).

Williams has been missing from the lineup since aggravating a sprained left foot in the third quarter of an Oct. 4 win against Detroit. After leading the NFL in rushing through the season's first games, Williams has been sidelined the past two.

"We expect him to play, to be honest with you," Coach Jon Gruden said.

In the team's first in-pads workout in two weeks, Williams took part in nearly every drill.

"When we put the ball in his hands, he did fine," running backs coach Art Valero said.

But more than that will go into the final decision, which may come down to game time. The Bucs definitely could use Williams' breakaway threat, especially with third-year quarterback Chris Simms making just the third start of his career.

Bucs rookie running back Cadillac Williams is not certain he'll play Sunday at San Francisco, but his injured left foot feels the best it has in more than a month.

"Right now it's still a day-by-day thing, but I feel pretty good," Williams said Friday after participating fully in practices on three consecutive days. "This is pretty much the best I've felt since the injury."
