Sleeper RB down the stretch?

Recommended Posts

Ok before you rip me give it a chance. This guy was a stud the 2nd half of the year 2 years ago, and busted last year, so many gave up on him. The guy still has talent and is running hard this year, averaging 4.1 a carry for that awful team. This past week against Wash., he was averaging almost 4 yards a carry and ripped off a 17 yard TD run that he looked good on against a tough skins D. Gore had 2.0 yard/carry that same game before his long TD, which i know you cant take it out, but that was when the game was distanced by 40 points against 2nd and 3rd stringers. Since Alex Smith has came in, Barlow numbers have increased and in my scoring system hes avged about 10 points/game over his past 4. He also has 3 catches/game and 20 yards. So basically im saying hes been decent thus far. Now look at his remaining schedule, which is the main reason im saying this.

Sun 10/30 Tampa Bay 4:15 pm

Sun 11/6 NY Giants 4:05 pm

Sun 11/13 at Chicago 1:00 pm

Sun 11/20 Seattle 4:05 pm

Sun 11/27 at Tennessee 1:00 pm

Sun 12/4 Arizona 4:05 pm

Sun 12/11 at Seattle 4:05 pm

Sun 12/18 at Jacksonville 1:00 pm

Sat 12/24 at St. Louis 1:00 pm

Sun 1/1 Houston 4:05 pm

Besides this week, Chicago, and Jacksonville hes gonna be running easy. My championship is week 17, so that houston matchup is nice if i make it that far. I'm not saying stud, but flex/2nd spot starter is a good prediction from him the rest of the way, and hes gotta be comin at a cheap price.

I got him for Vinny T and Antonio Bryant in my 2Qb start league, Hes to wishful thinking, with some practical reasoning.

While I think he has value, his value is as a RB3/Flex player.

With Alex Smith in there (when he returns) and no quality receiving TE, Barlow becomes the emergency dump off - and with that O-Line, he's catching many passes.

Combined with his hard running of late, he's definately got value - but like I said, unless pressed into it because of injury, I wouldn't be starting him. 3 games aside, he has a bunch of cushy matchups ahead - the problem though is similar to last year. The defense gets no rest because the offense can't produce.

When the defense is tired, teams start scoring on the Niners at will - so far, Nolan's been handling it like a preseason game - he continues to try and grind it out on the ground instead of airing it out like a team in contention would do. That much is at least somewhat good news for Barlow, but the O-Line wil prevent him from being a true #2 RB this year.

My $.02

Good luck...I have him as a backup, and given the health of so many other backs in the league, I've actually been getting trade offers for him. The sad part is that I actually need the RB depth more than what I've been offered.

I would say no, he is not a sleeper... in about 3-4 weeks, mayber sooner, Nolan will want to see what he has in Gore and hand him the rock... they will want to see if holding on to Barlow is worth it or not... IMO

I disagree with this.

Barlow should remain the starter as long as he is putting forth the effort. The team wants him to be a part of the future and they believe in his ability.

Nolan has expressed many times that Barlow is a key part of rebuilding this team.

Could Gore get more involved? Absolutely - could even become a RBBC. But right now Gore can't pass protect worht a crap, and it seems like ASmith will need all the protection that he can get if they want to keep him from going down (again).

Gore could see some increase in value, but if what you were saying was true, you'd have already seen it by now. When they were 1-5 it was pretty obvious that they weren't competing this year.

are you a niners fan and know this or are you just spouting off the usual "cut and paste" negative comment about a rookie that you have hardly seen play?

This could be true and it probably would be RBBC but this would make Barlow a fantasy pine rider...

I think that even Nolan holds out even a little bit of hope that he could make the playoffs in that division... hell, 2-3 games in a row and they are back in the hunt for the NFC West... none of us believe this but I think that they may believe it...

I am a Niner fan, and I've seen him play every game.

Thanks though. :D

making an ignorant and insulting assumption about me. Thank you - it helps others to segregate those of us providing thoughtful insight and those of us who are here to be antagonists.

Nicely done.

i'll go away and you can proceed with your MKB4 bickerings...

Then half the offense left to FA and the O-line collapsed and hasn't recovered

If he can do what Dom Davis has, then I will give him credit

If his O-line improves or he goes somewhere decent, then maybe ok, but never great..MY .02

Actually it is too bad Barlow is not on a better team. Barlow is running very hard and looks very good.

If I had to pick it would be Barlow over Gore but I would stay away from SF RBs!

it's a tip that you sounded a lot more like you were making an accusation with your "or are you" statement.

Two people read it as such.

And honest question would be, "have you seen him play?" You framed it a bit differently. And as mentioned - I'm perfectly ok with it, but expect to be called on it when you come at me that way.

Nothing but ,

I've got to commend you Scooter on the new leaf approach. Your restraint has been nothing short of remarkable. You know what they say though, "serenity now, insanity later."

BTW, I think LJ is a better start than the Padre this week!
