Seahawks signed WR Nate Burleson to a seven-year, $49 million offer sheet, with $5.25 million guaranteed and two comical "poison pills" provisions included.

The contract total was made to look just like the offer sheet Minnesota used to sign Steve Hutchinson away from the Seahawks. Burleson's deal would be re-worked after a few years. More noteworthy are Seattle's tongue-in-cheek 'poison pills' in the deal that guarantees the entire contract if Burleson plays a certain numer of games in the state of Minnesota or exceeds the highest paid running back on the team. Those provisions are a loud attempt by Seattle to close significant loopholes in the 'transition' tag designation that Minnesota took advantage of with Hutchinson's contract. Among all that confusion is the likelihood that Minnesota won't keep Burleson. They only offered him the 'low tender' as a restricted free agent.
