CHAOS 0 Posted March 25, 2006 I really believe that Dillon has hit a wall and the precipitous decline is in the wings. It seems like once aging vet RBs start getting "nagging injuries" it is a sign. I think he might put up serviceable numbers to start the season but if NE actually drafts the RB of the future (like a Lendale White, Deangelo Williams or even Addai) that guy could be starting by mid season. I've seen some mocks that show these guys falling that far and some that show them getting snagged earlier so who knows.

ROCKET 0 Posted March 25, 2006 If they draft a RB for the future I highly doubt it will be someone like Maroney, White or ? in the first round. I saw somewhere that Belichik and his mentor Parcells have never drafted a RB in the first round. I think they address LB with someone like Lawson/Sims early on. At RB you could possibly see a Harrison, Drew type taken in rounds 2-5. As a Pats fan I wouldn't be upset to see them pull the trigger on a guy like Maroney in round 1 but I don't see it. I'd be shocked if they don't take a rb somewhere in the first 4 rounds to spell Dillon and take over next year. ETA: WR is as dire a need as RB so I'd think they go there early on too. Raider 84 29 Posted March 25, 2006 He can be very productive this season. The problem with Dillon is that he can not stay health the older he gets. Drafting a rb is a possibiliy, but I dont see that happening in the first round unless they get one of the top 4 rbs.

No chance they draft a LB like Sims...he simply does not fit their scheme...too small. 2. Do not look for them to draft a small RB like DeAngelo Williams....they like backs with size and power to handle the NE field conditions, ball security, NBlitz assignments, ect. Belichick has always had a big back in his backfield. 3. The Pats take players from systems like theirs. So that means Maurice Stovall is likely a top target in round 1, or 2. B/C they need recievers like you say
ROCKET 0 Posted March 26, 2006 I don't agree about Sims as he's a very smart player with great instincts ala Bruschi but with more speed. Add to that a great work ethic and I think he'd fit in well if the Pats are just looking for a guy to roam from sideline to sideline and wreak havoc. He is a bit under-sized but so was Tatupu and we see how that worked out. If they are looking for a Willie replacement they would opt for a Lawson type who can bring it off the edge. I think either type would bolster the defense alot but it depends on where Pioli and BB see the biggest need. They also could opt for a DB. I'll be shocked if the first pick or two isn't on defense. ROCKET 0 Posted March 26, 2006 BelichickTommy Vardell in 92 Parcells George Adams in 85 Like I said I saw it posted somewhere but it must not be true. Looking at the 2 stiffs they drafted they might be less apt to do it again. The most recent example was Parcells passing on Jackson and grabbing JJ in the 3rd. I think BB will do the same this year. If you remember last year when BB was on The Big SHow, he noted to the Big O that they don't select players that they haven't seen do what the Pats will ask them to do (in response to The Big O asking him why he consistlently selects players from the same schools year after year). FSU plays a 4-3 with a DL in front playing one-gap...a penetrating style of D, favored by the Bucs, Colts, Bears. Yes Lofa was great, but its apples and oranges....he is in a different style of D altogether. I would be surprised if they took any other LB other than Bobby Carpenter in round one (assuming Greenway is gone), and if they take a LB it will be a converted DE like Lawson, Kiwanuka ect, that they will convert ala McGinest, Vrabel, Bruschi, Colvin.
