Poker Geeks: Chip shuffling (and other tricks)

Recommended Posts

I can do a 1 handed cut and a bridge shuffle. I can kinda do a knuckle roll with a chip, but it's my own bad version of that trick, and I've been practicing chip shuffling. I can do it better left handed for some reason. I'm at the point where I can take a stack of reds and a stack of blues, shuffle them 3 times and end up with a stack of reds and a stack of blues ... sometimes. I looked it up online, and like my knuckle roll, I'm doing my own version. When I try and do it, the way you are supposed to do it, I can't do it as well. Instead of my thumb and forefinger on the left stack, I do thumb and pinky on the right stack.

I can shuffle and do the 3 chip trick where you take the middle one out and put it back in.

Working on the levitating chip trick though, that is the coolest (and hardest) one.

Oh that 3 chip one is good. That's next on my list. Is it hard to learn?

I can shuffle a ten stack (5 on each side) pretty effectively. Anything over 5 on each side I start to struggle though.

That's all I have in my arsenal for now. I play on-line more then IRL so I haven't had much practice.

I have 2 real good slight of hand tricks.

The Wrong Number Die

You hold a die showing the six, as you turn it upside down, you twist it, and it will not show the 1 (the real number opposite a 6). Then you put it down, showing the six, and let the chump turn it over, and it's a 1.

The Wrong Side Coin Flip

This is a true "the hand is quicker than the eye" trick that takes a lot of practice. Take a coin (smaller is easier, I find a dime the easiest but I can do it with a penny or a nickel). Hold it in the palm of your hand. It's easiest, the farther to the left of center the coin is in the palm of your hand. Then, you pretty much move your hand out from under the coin faster than it falls. You can take a coin, show heads, flip your hand over and slam it on a table and say, "Call it". The chump will say, "Well tails, of course" and you lift your hand and it's still heads. You can also do it in the palm of your left hand instead of a table, but it's less convincing. Of course, this trick only works on someone once.

Took me about a week. Not hard if you practice at it, but really impressive to other players.

Just carry 3 chips with you and play with them when you are bored. Start with your other hand assisting the whole process.

So, those of you that can shuffle chips (I find an 8 stack easiest), do you use thumb and pinky on the right side stack?
