MDC 7,156 Posted May 1, 2006 The argument is that by raising the minimum wage, we'd be reducing jobs since employers don't want to pay a high rate for basically unskilled labor. I'm not sure I agree with that - IMHO, businesses that employ lots of unskilled labor like for example Burger King or whatever, are already employing as few workers as possible. Much as the local BK would like to cut a few cashiers, there comes a point when you're stretched as thin as you can get while still providing a level of service your customers will accept. The other thing is, the minimum wage isn't really increasing if it's not keeping pace with inflation; actually it's worth far less today because it's lagged so far behind the inflation rate.
