BO JACKSON 0 Posted May 5, 2006 I am in a brand new 8-Team Dynasty League this year, every team is starting with a blank slate and we keep all of our drafted players forever....unless we trade them. I really like Bush, Maroney, D'Angelo Williams, Lienart and Vernon Davis...what round do you think each of these 5 players will come off the board ? Thanks ! About 1-2 rounds before they should. Best advice in a dynasty is to not get too caught up with youth. Vets will fall... Don't be affraid to take some. Lobo237 0 Posted May 5, 2006 About 1-2 rounds before they should. Best advice in a dynasty is to not get too caught up with youth. Vets will fall... Don't be affraid to take some. Great advice. With rookies it's all about potential. They haven't done anything so everyone will start to reach looking for that next fantasy superstar and in doing so will bypass proven talent. If you really want one of these guys expect to pay the price. If you want more specific ideas you need to give some more information like any unusual scoring and of course roster requirements. I've drafted for two dynasty leagues recently and this was big in regards to Gates. In the TE required one he went in the 3rd round. In the other league we have 3 wr/te flex spots and he wasn't picked up til the 7th or 8th.
Wildman 0 Posted May 5, 2006 Definitely good advice from Grigs... The link below details the long view vs. the short view approach. Most people are long view owners and that's what hurts them. If you draft to win now, it's easier to deal from a strength in future years. Long term owners are trying to lay a foundation of players to dominate for several years. Funny enough, the short term owners lay the foundation quicker and usually have an easier time maintaining it over a longer period of time... Those backs you mentioned are all nice prospects, but I wouldn't consider the round they go as much as their status on their NFL team. If they are the undisputed starter, then treat them as such and look at the 2005 stats for the previous starter on that team. If they are the back up, draft them like a back up. If you miss out on them, no huge deal because you will have a better team. I play in two dynasty leagues. One I drafted short term and I've finished no lower than 3rd place in 6 years doing it. I drafted players like Randy Moss, Jimmy Smith, McNair, Aaron Brooks and was able to grab youth off the waiver wire like Chad Johnson or veterans people where down on the year before they re-emerged (Dillon and Stephen Davis). On the other hand, the league I'm discussing with MacGregor on the link below is one I took the long approach and after 3 years, I'm just getting close to the .500 mark. I had to revamp the entire team and it has been much more difficult. http://ffdynasty.blogspot.com/
Let Da Big Dog Eat 40 Posted May 5, 2006 If I were going into a new Dynasty league my plan would be as follows: Early rounds: Players in year 2-5 who are likely impact players for a number of years. Examples are Fitz, Caddy, Gates, CJ, you get the idea. Also, the big 3 RB's should go here, obviously. Mid rounds: Players who are established and in the middle of their careers that you can start without hesitation. Guys like Plaxico, Ward. Later rounds: Rookies and guys who are nearing the end of their careers but can win games for you now. But, the vets first. Examples are Rod Smith, Jimmy Smith. You can go after rookies in coming years when you already have a starting team in place that can win. This gives you the chance to win now and have a strong roster to trade with later. Also, if you are out of the race early (not likely) you could trade aging vets to someone making a SB run for picks/younger guys. Last, do not gamble on trying to draft the next Lamont Jordan. That's a wasted choice. There's 32 of them out there every year.
dirty dug 0 Posted May 5, 2006 My advice for dynasty drafters (coming from a two-time champion of a 14 team dynasty league) is to draft the players that are going to score the most combined points every week. You're welcome, I should charge for this stuff. HTH
