PackerAaron 0 Posted May 10, 2006 From Cliff Christl's weblog- Ted Thompson, general manager of the Green Bay Packers, told this interesting story on draft day, but it pretty much got lost among all the other news. “There were a couple moments here with the Packers when I was here before we were one pick away from Ray Lewis. We had Ray Lewis on the phone and thought he was our pick, and Baltimore took him. In the fourth round in some year, I don’t remember what it was, we had Rodney Harrison’s name written down on the card and had it turned over just waiting for some team to turn in their pick. At the last minute that team makes a trade – we were on the phone and knew who they were going to pick – and, all of a sudden, Rodney Harrison goes right in front of us.” The Baltimore Ravens drafted Lewis with the 26th pick in 1996. The Packers drafted tackle John Michels, 27th. The San Diego Chargers selected Harrison with the 145th pick in the fifth round of the 1994 draft. The Packers took wide receiver Terry Mickens, 146th. Sometimes you pencil-in a guy and he goes right before you - and drags that team to the bottom of the standings. Sit back and wonder "what if ... what ... if ..." This is what makes me think the Bills did a good job drafting this year. bigums 0 Posted May 12, 2006 I think Buffalo had Whitner penciled in there all along. Mayock predicted they'd take him in his mock when none of the other 'experts' even had him in the 1st round.
