Tusekan Raiders 0 Posted June 17, 2006 http://www.startribune.com/512/story/496345.html Russell is raw, but a better prospect than Tony Hollings was. The allegation that he is not in summer school, if true, apparently means he enters the fall academically ineligible, hence he cannot transfer to any NCAA school, even a lower division. That leaves the NAIA, sitting out, or supplemental draft as his options. He still has two years of eligibility left even if he sits out (he would be a 3JR if he was eligible), so he doesn't have to rush to the NFL, but it is a possibility, in which case he becomes an intriguing dynasty pick. Da Bomb 0 Posted June 17, 2006 how deep does a supplemental draft go, anyways? russell's not that high of a prospect. hes not as good a prospect as maroney (1st) or marion barber (4th). i guess he would probably be a 5th or 6th round flyer. unless this supplemental draft goes so long that a team could end up spending a 6th or 7th on him, i dont see him going anywhere. Supplemental's a blind auction using next year's picks. Teams bid what round pick they want to use on a player, and if they bid the highest, they get the player, and lose that round's pick next year. Not exactly sure how they determine the order, in case 2 teams bid the same round on him. I think it's something like the NBA lottery.
eo11 0 Posted June 17, 2006 Ahmad Brooks from Virgina will have more teams interested in the supplemental draft than there has been in a long time. 1 team has already let it slip they will use a 2nd rounder on him (note these things are usually smoke screens) Brooks can play any LB spot and DE and has recently been called a bigger faster Ray Lewis. some of the other players might get snarred in the feeding frenzy but I am betting not many, teams save a lot of money waiting.
