Nate Burleson's Burly Son

Discuss this mock

Recommended Posts

This is the roster I assembled in a 10-team mock, just completed. I picked from the 1-spot, and wanted to see how it would pan out taking Gates in the 3rd. I think the ripple effect on the rest of the draft was too much. My 2nd back position is horrible, but I loaded up at WR in order to dangle some trade bait a few weeks in. Tell me what you guys think.

Larry Johnson 1.01

Marvin Harrison 2.10

Antonio Gates 3.01

Santana Moss 4.10

Ahman Green 5.01 (this pick was just flat out stupid. This move has about a 30% chance of working out. Other backs available were Dayne,Bell,Droughns,Bush,T.Jones,Rhodes)

Deshaun Foster 6.10 (D. Williams would have been next, but I missed him.)

Duante Culpepper 7.01

Reggie Brown 8.10

Drew Bledsoe 9.01 (love this pick. TO=$)

Nate Burleson 10.10

Muhsin Muhammad 11.01 (love #1 WRs this far into a draft)

Billy Volek 12.10

Dallas Clark 13.01

Jags Def 14.10

Mewelde Moore 15.01

Jeff Wilkins 16.10

and you went green over droughns why?... an almost salvagable draft though.

I was thinking the exact same thing...

not sure of your format, but what it appears you did wrong was take harrison with the second pick and then gates with the third. If you had to take gates then the best RB available should have been your second rd pick. Then you could have drafted s. moss in the 4th and a decent WR in the 5th.

I agree with your own assessment.

Personally, I wouldnt have taken Marv and Gates 2 & 3 or even Santana at 4 for that matter. I would have taken Tatum instead of Ahman.

But, lets focus on the positives.

I think you got good value with Mushin, Volek, and Dallas Clark.

This is what I think I would do:

I would trade Gates and roll the dice with Dallas Clark. I cant see Gates coming close to what he has the last 2 years with Rivers in there.

Then I would package Gates with Santana to get a stud WR or stud RB

This lineup would look pretty good:

-Culpepper, Bledsoe, Volek (one of these three wil pan out)

-Larry Johnson

-stud RB or WR (plus Deshaun to backup)

Marvin

Mushin, Burleson, or Brown

Dallas Clark

Jags

Wilkins

I think you can compete with anyone if you could get the right player from a Gates/Santana Moss trade.

what RB's were available around the 2.10 / 3.01 pick....I don't like the Gates pick that early with a new QB.

I would've gone RB and then Harrison....

Good input-thanks. This was only a mock, and it can pay to try different things. I'll probably stick to RB/RB in rounds 1 and 2 come actual draft day. That being said, I've drafted TO in round 2 the past 2 years.

Tons of viable #2s at 2.10/3.01. What you suggest would have worked out much better. I mean, I ended up with Dallas Clark way late in the draft. I could definately live with that.
