nos23 1 Posted July 5, 2006 does anyone else think that holt will come close to 1700 yards like he did in 2003?

adam smitty 0 Posted July 5, 2006 Why not? Holt could easily be the #1 WR this year.
famousb 11 Posted July 5, 2006 Why not? Holt could easily be the #1 WR this year. although i think it is quite possible that he could be the #1 WR this year, i don't think he will be it for two main reasons: 1. Bulger seems to be slightly injury prone, and their backup chucking the rock isn't quite as encouraging. 2. Martz leaving = less pass-happy offense, meaning less chances for Holt to shine. and i also see the emergence of several other nice WR threats coming up through the ranks this year in my crystal ball. But i'd still be more than happy to have Holt on my squad as my #1 WR.

But i'd still be more than happy to have Holt on my squad as my #1 WR. Gus Frerotte is their back-up. I realize he isn't an elite QB, but he has worked with Linehan the last 3 seasons (2 in MIN, 1 in MIA). He should know Linehan's system inside and out by now and last year he was the starting QB for the Dolphins that helped Chris Chambers produce a career year. If Bulger goes down, Frerotte should be a decent replacement. He could probably pass as a #2QB and after seeing how well he hooked up with Chambers, I would have to assume he'd find Holt just as often. Same can be said about the "less-pass happy offense" scenario. Martz may have thrown the ball more, but if Linehan puts a more effective offense in place they won't have to pass as often in order to achieve the same yardage/TD results. Linehan has a good track record with receivers. He got great production from Moss, then did the same with Chambers. Holt is right up there with those guys in terms of talent and with that being the case I can't imagine Holt not having a great season under any scenario, barring an injury. Things should go real well for the Rams offense this season in my opinion. Their defense may need work, but the offense should be impressive.

Their defense may need work, but the offense should be impressive. i think Linehan can put together a good offense and will use what he has there very effectively, but i just can't see how if they drop from their 600 pass attempt avg. per year down to say even 90% of that at 540 atts. this year how Holt will get the #s he would need to be the #1 overall WR. I think 90-95 rec's isn't too bad of a projection, with also around a 1350 yd performance this year - but that'll be just top 5... that's just my guess right now... With Frerotte i think i just have an image of him not being the best option. I know he is capable, but it just doesn't instill confidence in me when i see him jogging onto the field... TheGiantJets 18 Posted July 5, 2006 I would like to see it. I'll be aiming for him in my draft and most likely will get him.
