Bell Impressing Shanahan

Recommended Posts

Since when does shanny tell the truth?

Look for Dayne to get the nod to start the season if this keeps up.

Ron Dayne is for the birds. He's built like a full back and runs like an offensive lineman. He sucked on the Giants and couldn't get any 3rd down converstions. Last year I believe he had "decent" quarter

the guy sucks and he's proven that already

Broncos: Interested in Thomas Jones?

The News

In an apparent effort to upgrade their tailback position, the Broncos recently approached the Bears about the availability of six-year veteran runner Thomas Jones, ESPN.com is reporting. The Broncos are apparently offering Ashley Lelie as trade bait to acquire Jones, but no deal appears imminent.

Our View

This is interesting speculation because Chicago seems intent on giving the rock to second-year stud Cedric Benson. The fantasy values of Tatum Bell, Ron Dayne, Jones and Benson all hang in the balance when rumors like this begin to swirl, though Bears coach Lovie Smith denied the team having any interest in Lelie on Wednesday.

Hmm...must not be too sold on Bell, huh?

Not necessarily. Looks like they were trying to get something for nothing, cause Lelie is nothing.

But they WERE trying to get a starting caliber RB, so that makes me think that they STILL aren't sold on Bell. He MAY emerge and win the job outright with the competition he has, but it seems neither the Broncos coaches nor I have any confidence that he WILL do that.

Yeah, the Bears taking Lelie would have to be kind of a freebie in the deal...especially since another WR has got to be quite low on the Bears' wish list.

Agreed. There's no room for Lelie on the team. We have talented speedsters that need playing time to develop, not a malcontent one trick pony who cries about being a #1 WR without having the credentials to back it up.

Ron Dayne sucks, blah, blah, blah.

Dayne is in a pretty good spot, assuming no other running backs are added. He returned to a similiar style running game as he ran at Wisconsin, and he's shed a bit of weight.

Also, the Giants debacle probably had a lot to do with what I call the "tiki-ization" of Ron Dayne. Trying to make moves behind the line, rather than making one cut and hitting the hole. He did OK finding and hitting the seams at Wisconsin, but he was asked to change a bit with the Giants. Denver has been getting to run like he did in college. He may or may not succeed, but I'm convinced this is his best shot. If he can't do it there, he can't do it anywhere.
