steven jackson at number 5?

Recommended Posts

i have the number 5 pick in a 10 team redraft. i'm assuming of course that lj, lt and sa will all be gone. i'm seeing everywhere that barber and portis are the next two to most likely go, but i'm leaning towards steven jackson at this spot. is this nuts?

my reasoning:

great offense that wants to run more. no faulk. no martz passing every down. easy schedule. i think jackson can be a monster.

while i can't argue with picking the other two i'm just wondering if i'm reaching too far here..? obviously i need to make a wise decision as the next pick i get in round two will probably be a much less promising rb (assuming that's what i take).

Barber, Portis, Jackson, Rudi Johnson, Edge and R Brown are the next obvious 7 after the top 3 are off the board.

If you like Jackson...take him...but see if you can convince the guy in the 6 hole to trade spots such that you get to pick before him in round 2 etc....Unless it is a real homer pick and Jackson is not...take the guy you like in round1 as you will live and die with him

I will say that between Jackson, Portis and Barber...Jackson plays the meanest run defenses throughout the season and when your team is in the FF playoffs....(I rank defenses by passing and rushing yards given up...not win loss)

Not at all...I have Steven Jackson as #4 on my board and I expect him to have a HUGE season. Don't hesitate to scoop up "Action" Jackson - - he's the real deal.

Just in case you are interested, his nickname within the organization is "Train"

No Lamont in this group? I am actually hoping to draft around 8-10 this year and grab Lamont and Chester or maybe Caddy (less likely to be there) on the way back. Lamont was top 10 in my league last year and can only improve with Brooks and Shell. Give me those 2 and bring it on!

I would have a hard time taking Jackson ahead of Portis if he is there, but otherwise I think you can make a case for Jackson (and about 5 other RBs) in the 5 spot.

I'm in this same spot and at one point, I figured that I would take whoever is left between Portis and Tiki. But I realized that I don't like Tiki that high and I started thinking about Jackson. Now I'm stuck with: what do I do if both Portis and Jackson are on the board at #5? I'm starting to think that Jackson might be the better pick because of a softer schedule. Thoughts?
