RB's a plenty, who to drop?

Recommended Posts

I've been staring at this for so long the names are blending together...

I stocked up on RB's on my bench, but there's a few free agents that have caught my eye, what should I do?

Bench RB:

Jamal Lewis

Chester Taylor

Kevin Jones

Frank Gore

Free Agents:

Vince Young

M. Muhummad

It's sounding like Vince Young might start sometime this year...maybe sooner than later, and my QB's leave something to be desired...we start 2 and I have T. Green, D. Brees and B. Favre as a backup. After seeing Favre in the preseason, I'm a little concerned. Also, I have M. Jones as a backup WR but for some reason I'm having a hard time letting him go. I would like Muhummad b/c I think he's talented and Chicago might have a better passing attack than last year with Grossman/Griese. He's bound to do better than last year!

I just feel each backup RB has potential to be a big sleeper this year, but I definitely don't need 4 of them. The problem is deciding which one is expendable. I'm leaning toward J. Lewis b/c he's battling an injury and Mike Anderson is waiting on the wings.

What should I do? Sit tight for the season to begin and decide then, or try and snag V. Young before anyone else gets wise to him?

Thanks!

I hate you.

But seriously....never get rid of RB depth....ever.....never. Neither of those players will help your team like a good matchup for KJ or Jamal will. Take it from a guy whos backups are Addai Barlow and Benson!

I wouldnt hold a roster spot for Young. Muhammy could be worth a spot, but none of the guys you mentioned are droppable IMO.

Sit tight, and wait for the other RBs to start dropping and your competition to get desperate...

Exactamundo. Somebody is gonna come calling by week 2 or 3 when they find out their RBs are trash. Then youll see some value comin at ya.

I'm hoping this is true, but the problem is my fellow managers don't seem to understand the importance of RB's (the reason I got a bench like I do) but they are putting too much stock in the other positions. I tried to trade a RB for Jon Kitna and he declined. Not that I would've traded, I just wanted to gauge what he'd want for compensation.

I'd love to trade for a good QB like Delhomme or McNabb, but I'll probably have to wait until my RB's start putting up numbers in the regular season.

Unless you are desperate for WR help, keep what ya got. Mushy could be okay if Griese gets the call, but RB depth is more important.

Leave Young on the WW, he will suck even if he does start this year IMO

Agree with Gridiron Mafia .. I HATE YOU - with a bench like that other "managers" are obviously trying to get it done with QB and WR's but then I ask myself why would Muhsin be there.

Of those I would drop K. Jones but agree with other posters - sit tight and wait till a few RB's get injured and you will have WR's thrown at you. I would not drop Matt Jones. With no Jimmy Smith I believe he's a top receiver, he had 5 TD's last year on minimal looks/yardage.

You're definitely right about the other managers; that and they all have a backup TE, K and DEF. I only have 1 of each and spent the later rounds grabbing those juicy RB's.

I just looked at the other teams, one team is really hurting at RB and I might be able to trade one of mine for a QB. He has Eli Manning, Marc Brunell, and Byron Leftwich on the bench. I doubt he'll give me Manning, but I'm wondering if I propose a trade for Leftwich...maybe Jamal Lewis. What do you think?

Thanks again for the help

Leftwich is not worth J-Lew! Lewis will be huge this year and by week 5 you might get J-Lew for Eli!

Maybe KJ for Eli?

Yeah, upon more pondering I think I agree. I just don't know if he'd give up Eli right now. I'd probably have to give him one of my starting RB's (R. Brown or L. Jordan) But he is seriously hurting at RB so he might just give me Eli for KJ or Jamal. Right now, he has Cadillac and C. Benson starting with D. Williams and C. Brown on the bench. Benson isn't going to start, and the other two are definitely not starting quality when compared to the other starting RB's.

Maybe I could get his Javon Walker or Marvin Harrison instead, and take my chances with Brett Favre as a backup. After seeing Javon in the preseason, he looks like he'll have a great year.

Might help clarifying things if you put up whole team. Didnt know ya had Brett as your BU QB.

I would try KJ for whichever QB , Leftwich or Brunell ( solid FULL '05 with 3K yds passing and 23 TD's - Brandon lloyd on other side should really WHOLE offense cranking), both injury prone. I doubt seriously he would give up Eli for a single back.

Here's my dismal teams I drafted - both 10 team drafts.

Here's my dismal teams I drafted - both 10 team drafts.

Here's my team, drafted 9th out of 10:

QB: D. Brees 5.49

QB: T. Green 7.69

RB: R. Brown 1.9

RB: L. Jordan 2.12

WR: T. Holt 3.29

WR: A. Boldin 4.32

WR: D. Driver 6.52

TE: dropped Z. Hilton (9.89), now have B. Troupe

K: N. Kaeding 16.152 (drafted L. Tynes and picked up Kaeding when he was dropped)

DEF: Washington 15.149

B: K. Jones 12.112

B: J. Lewis 8.72

B: C. Taylor 11.109

B: F. Gore 13.129 (I actually drafted L. Maroney, but when SF let Barlow go, I picked up Gore)

B. M. Jones 14.132

B. B. Favre 10.92

I was happy with Favre as a backup until I saw that preseason game against the Bangals. I'm wondering if I can trade for E. Manning and use him as a starter, or get Brunell or Leftwich as an insurance backup, I'd feel more comfortable.

Or, like I said, I could try and get M. Harrison or J. Walker and have a knock out WR core...altho it's not bad now. Imagine having Harrison instead of Driver. Wow! But I'm still concerned about my QB's

Get Harrison and could have a "knock out WR core" ?

You have 3 of the top 8 receivers from last year( Yardage)

and TD production should be steady or increase for all.

Touche, but to have 4 out of the top 8 would be better...that way when (not if) one gets hurt or just doesn't produce, I'll have insurance. I'm optimistic about Driver, but I'd be even more optimistic about Harrison...especially if I just cannot find a QB thru a trade, might as well get the next best thing
