What's with all the sound effects on football coverage this year?

The Rams-Broncos game had a sound that reminded me of the noise Windows makes when a comuter activity fails. The first time or two, I went over to my computer, thinking my auto-update of Sportsline wasn't working.

 

I also noticed that the late game Fox coverage (on both the 49ers/Cardinals and Bears/Packers games) featured some kind of funny noise on what seemed to be every snap.

 

That crap adds nothing. It's actually distracting.
