I hate Poker

Recommended Posts

Actualy feeling a little burned out on playing poker and drinking beer. Not the best mentality entering a poker tournament, but it looked pretty good when I got big slick on the second hand.

Flop came K,10,5 all dimes, paid to see the turn and the river, blank, blank, and paid to see his nut flush, but survived it against the guy to my right in all St. Patricks day gear.

Couple hands later, big slick again, this time I raised pre-flop ... ended up chasing, and this is where I focked up ... I shoulda bluffed, made it looked like I made my straight. Open ended on the board. He checked, and I checked ... (sholda bet) ... 2 pair (jacks and nines), and I'm short stacked (focking big slick!). Couple hands later, I'm down from the starting 3500 chips to 1000 chips, big blind at 100, and I'm dealt J,Q offsuit.

Flop comes up Q,5, 2 rainbow. Early position bets $400, and with $600 left I go all in. He calls.

Shows, K,Q ...turn and river are blanks, King kicker beats my Jack kicker. I'm out! Didn't even make it to the break. Lucky I didn't go totally broke with big slick twice.

It was pretty brutal at my table. Like 4 people at my table got knocked out before me. It was clear there were some serious players. One chick, who showed up late, and just looked like a wounded gazel went all in with pocket aces and a pair of sixes on the board, course someone had A, 6 and took her out. There were bounties too. Someone got $25 for knocking me out. Was pretty fun. Got a hat. Found a quarter in the parking lot.

<_<

I've found that GFIAFP's posts can be almost bearable if you imagine Karl Childers reading the entire post out loud. It works something like this....

I reckon it was pretty brutal at my table...mmmmmmm. Like 4 people at my table got knocked out quite a spell before me. I spec' it was clear there were some serious players...mmmmm. One lady, she showed up purty late, and just looked like a wounded gazel went all in with pocket aces and a pair of sixes on the board, 'course, I reckon some feller had A, 6 and he took her out...mmmm hmmmmm. There were french fried potaters too. Someone studied quite a bit on givin' another fella $25 to kill me with a lawnmower blade...mmmmmm. I reckon it was purty fun. I got me a hat....mmmmmm. Found me a quarter in the parking lot and I was thinkin' I could use me another couple cans'o that potted meat..mmmmm hmmmmm.

Yup. Found out on the 101 that my top needs repairin'. It was windy this monrnin' ... wooo boy was it windy! Yup. And I hate wind. Bad sign for me.

Anywhoo, I had sewed it up with fishin' line before. Done busted. Gonna hafta redo that. Good weather to go topless. Top needs some work. Cat piss ... is my main concern. And crack heads. Steal my friggin fire extinguisher.

LOL. Try playing for real money instead of play money. OH, and I thought you were the live poker king? :headbanger:

Huh? This was my first RL tourney at a CASINO, and I play pretty good limit at the CASINO too. I'm still profitable. Does that make us equal now? We each lost our first RL tournament? Only cost me $200.

And ... it's actually a pretty nice hat.

I don't think my play was that bad. And I was cool about it. "What can ya do? Good luck guys! Happy St. Patrick's Day!" ... saw more than one person storm off all angry.

Bad cards. The worst cards you can get. Cards that are ALMOST good.

I wish the gubment would pay for my crab legs and poker tournaments. :headbanger:

Hey, I CHOSE to become a teacher. I made less than $20k last year, and less than $10k the year before (went bankrupt). I qualified for food stamps. I might still, but I don't need them so I haven't re-applied. I've never accepted any form of welfare, disability, or worker's comp, even though I have an injured back. My 401k, everything was gone before I went BK. There was no other option. I've actually been at my job as an art teacher long enough (over a year) to qualify for matching 401k beni's, so of course I'm taking advantage of that ... but I am pretty much starting all over again. Besides the $50k I owe in student loans. Can't get outta those.

Those food stamps really helped ... and I qualified. And $3.99 a pound for crab legs? How can you say no? You can buy a LOT of Top Ramen @ $150 a month.

Oh and ... POKER ... paid for that $200 entry fee.

Oh, I thought you said before, you had only played inner-net tourney's b4 you won that WSOP seat. Thought you said that was your first RL tourney.

I'm not sure that guy woulda folded his JJ,99 if I had bet ... and there was an open ended straight on another hand, I didn't chase. You gotta get lucky, right? I think I shoulda called a $400 bet there to see the turn. Like I said, this table was brutal! At least 4 people were knocked out before me. No choice right? Top pair, decent kicker. Less than 10 times the big blind, with action. And I was smart enough to beg "JACK!" before the 10 on the river.

Oh, well. Like I said, I left with class. All I could do.

So .... tell the story.

You do remember the story right. How much did you win?

LOL. I've posted before about it. My first live tourney was in Laughlin, about 9 months before the WSOP I played in. I made the final table, finished in I think 7th place if I remember correctly. I would have done better but the size of the blinds and the draw of position at the final table had me going all in with a J7 or something like that against AJ. I lost that hand and a couple of hands later eveyone decided to chop.

Strike justifying his first tournament experience to GFIAFP is pretty sweet.

Did I ever tell you the "35 cents" story? Walked into an after hours party in college. I had 35 cents. Some kids were playing poker.

My first time at a casino was in Laughlin. At the time it was the closest casino from school in Tucson. Like 1991. A friend of mine had his Mom's 4 door BMW. So 4 of us cruise to Laughlin. I had like maybe $60, which was gone in under an hour. My friends still tease me because I put like $20 into one of those qurter pushing machines. So, I went and slept in the car. The next morning, after we are all broke ... we are heading down that 2 lane, 2 way road out of Laughlin. Not sure it's still like it was. Dangerous road. Anyway, I'm doing your standard 5 MPH over the limit, see this guy in the rearview come up behind me ... and it was like it all happened in slow motion, he goes to pass me, but there is a car coming the other way. I think he's gonna see it, and pull back in behind me, but he goes for it, and next thing I know, I just remember saying "This guy is crazy!", and I'm trying to stear and brake at the same time, expecting a full, head on collision in front of me, I'm prepared to go off onto the shoulder if I have to. The other car saw it and veered too. And he made it. Boy ... that BMW handled well. Gotta say. Coulda been ugly.

Also, my friends remember me for my excellent driving under the circumstances. That is ... saving all our lives.

ETA: Never been to Vegas. AC a couple times.
