I just hate the term period. I use excuse me if I've burped or I'm trying to get by someone in the store. When someone uses it because they feel wronged in some way, it bugs me! If I'm dropping F-bombs in front of someone's kid, instead of saying "Excuse Me?!", why not just say, "Hey buddy, would you mind toning downt the language in front of my kid!"

why would someone say "hey buddy" when they probably want to punch you in the face, you are not their buddy. I think saying excuse me, to get you attention first and then saying shut your mouth around my kids is perfectly fine.
