From what I've read the girl he was with claims that he saved her life before he got pulled away by the current.

The woman Marquise Hill was with on a jetski before he was lost in Lake Pontchartrain in Louisiana says Hill saved her life.

 

A strong current reportedly knocked the two off their watercrafts and the 24-year-old Hill helped the woman get to a buoy before drifting away.
