Let Da Big Dog Eat 40 Posted June 22, 2007 From my Wells Fargo Daily Investor e-newsmail: "Living in New York, I'm used to groaning about how expensive it is in the Big Apple, but NYC no longer ranks very high on the list of expensive global cities. Nor do other American cities. Maybe it's a measure of how fast the world economy is growing (and catching up with the U.S.) that only New York and Los Angeles rank among the world's 50 most expensive metropolises. According to Mercer Consulting's annual list, Moscow is the world's priciest town. A two-bedroom apartment there costs $4,000 a month, and a basic fast food burger costs $4.80. London and Seoul are numbers 2 and 3, respectively. New York fell from 10th on last year's list to 15th, and L.A. dropped from 29th to 42nd. Of course currency exchange rates play a role in all of this. Mercer takes the cost of living in New York as its base in calculating the list, and the appreciation of the Russian ruble helped push Moscow's cost of living 34% higher than New York's. Ouch." Sure surprised me.

IGotWorms 4,058 Posted June 22, 2007 Wow, that is interesting. I wonder why only 2 U.S. cities are in the top 50? Are we cheap?
