Just crunched some numbers. Picked up about 32 units since Sunday. And even more considering my current CFL unit is 2 or 3 times larger than a unit on baseball, AFL, or WNBA. I was overdue for a run like this posting at this site on sports other than football.

So, the age old question is whether to keep pressing my luck, or go more conservative since I am reluctant to give the money back any time soon.

Anyway, I still want to think over the CFL game tonight and look over the trends and stats. But I won't put more than one unit on it.

Good luck to all.

7/6/07 Plays:

Whitesox -110 (game 1), 1 unit L

Milwaukee -141, 1 unit W

Notes: Nadal just knocked out T.Berdych like he was nothing. I'm starting to like Nadal more for winning the Wimbledon title. I think he beats N.Djokovic SRB (4) in the semi finals. I guess I like the way he came back from 2 sets down on Mikhail Youzhny RUS (14) to win. Note how the line on Roddick has moved up to -400 from -350, and up to -450 from -400. I have Roddick in this match but I don't like how most of the money is being thrown on him. I bet Roddick in this match only because I knew he beat Gasquet earlier in the year and with coach Connors at his side, he should be primed to repeat. Connors is/was everything Roddick isn't so I'm hoping that helps. No possible way can Roddick win Wimbledon though.

Add: Roddick just lost me a hunk. I can't believe he has a 2 set lead, and leads 4-2 in the 3rd and loses this. I'll give Gasquet alot of credit for winning this and will contemplate betting him against Federer.

Add: Just want to add that the reason Roddick lost is that he lacks killer instinct and he got complacent when he had victory seemingly handed to him on a silver platter. I've listened to tennis pros tell me in the past that Roddick is not that good, and I have conceded that, but I made a mistake in going back to betting Roddick today.

Nice pick last night with Winnipeg PhillyBear. I had no idea who won until about 5 mins ago. Saved me a bit after an awful day. Haven't even looked at today's games but will post this afternoon when I check them out.

CFL YTD: 5-3; +5.5 units

Friday (10:30PM EST)

British Columbia (-7) for 1 unit

I really gave this game a lot of consideration, and almost passed on it. But I’ll give it a shot anyway, if line doesn’t go higher than 7. I think there is some line value with British Columbia tonight.

A rivalry game tonight, a rematch of the Grey Cup from 2 years ago. Last year, British Columbia won the Grey Cup while Edmonton fell out of the playoffs for the first time in three decades or so. Edmonton rolled up their sleeves, and went to work in the off season. Their offense was #1 in the CFL going into this weekend, led by the new offensive coordinator, who happened to be the coordinator of BC last year. Edmonton rolled up 39 points and 540 yards of offense in their tie with Winnipeg. Yep, all those points, and they couldn’t win. Their defense has issues, with several new starters, including in the secondary. And they will need time to jell. In fact, I think the whole Edmonton team needs more time to jell. Sure, they got a tie in an absolute shootout last week, but their defense was horrific, giving up tons of crucial plays, and giving up 416 passing yards is a bad trend heading into this week. Looking over the history of this series the last few years, just 2 of the last 7 meetings were decided by more than 7 points, so they have played some close games. And Edmonton scored a ton of points last week. Seems like Edmonton might be a trendy selection, based on how British Columbia played last week.

British Columbia started off the season by beating Toronto 24-22. Seemed like BC came out flat for the game. Little chance of that this week, as both teams are trashing each other in the media, calling each other dirty players. Weird game last week, dominated by special teams. After a sluggish offensive start by both teams, British Columbia was ahead 10-1 when disaster struck just before the end of the first half. Muffed punt deep inside their territory set up the first Toronto TD. 10-8. Then on the final play of the first half, British Columbia missed a FG, which Toronto returned 109 yards for a TD. So British Columbia trailed 15-10, mostly due to a pair of special teams gaffes. In the second half, BC established dominance early, took a 24-15 lead, before Toronto scored a late 4th quarter TD, in essence getting a backdoor cover. I think the score is deceiving. Toronto scored nearly every point off turnovers and garbage time points. While BC was breaking in a new offense, they were also going up against what may be the best defense in the league with Toronto, on the road, vs a fired up home dog. BC could not overcome their mistakes to cover, but almost did.

What is key to me is that BC had the #1 offense and #1 defense last year in the CFL. BC’s defense looked very good last week, their offense looked shaky vs an excellent defense. Flip the tables for this week. The BC offense is facing the putrid Eskimos defense this week. Boiling it down, I prefer the BC offense over the Edmonton offense this week simply based on the defensive matchup they will be facing. BC will put up points in this game; they will have to purposely try not to score in order to fail. And I prefer the BC defense because the Edmonton defense stinks. The crowd should give BC a boost, their first home game since winning the Grey Cup last year. Lay the lumber.

It's nice to get you out of hibernation. Your input is always welcome.

Wish you had been around to play Winnipeg in CFL last night, my big Canadian play of the week.

Stick around for CFL. I only posted plays over the 2nd half of the season last year, and picked up around 23 units. There is money to be made, if we are all patient, week to week.

Another great write up and I am once again tailing you. Good luck my friend.

Good luck to you too. Remember, it's just a small play.

Edit: unless an obvious 2nd half play pops up.

San Jose is 8-0 SU at home, winning 7 of the games by double digits. Dallas is a dominant offensive team that should be able to shut down Columbus passing game.

Hamilton....

Taking Hamilton isn't a popular decision, as I saw that around 90% of the money being wagered is on Toronto. And I don't understand it. Granted, Hamiton is a young team that has been rebuilding for a while, and lost 37-9 at Calgary last week, which is a tough place to play. But they managed to move the ball, QB Maas had a decent game especially his passing efficiency, RB Jesse Lomsden had about 120 total yards, and Hamilton was competive for the entire first half, eventually fading down the stretch. Hamilton does have some talented skill players. We might see Timmy Chang come in for Maas at some point, which isn't a bad thing, as his career in Hawaii gave him a skill set that translates well to the CFL.

Toronto has no business laying points on the road. It's simply ridiculous. This team has a very good defense, but no offense. Sure, Toronto lost to BC last week 24-22. But they were handed 14 points on turnovers just before halftime, including a 109 kickreturn. And they scored in garbage time. Otherwise, they did nothing on offense. Fast forward to this week. New QB starting, new RB starting, new kicker starting. Where is the continuity? They are coming off an emotionally draining home loss to BC to travel to Hamilton to play a team that they don't believe is on their level. Where is the motivation? It's important to note Hamilton gained about 100 total yards more than Toronto last week, despite only scoring 9 pts vs Toronto scoring 22. Very, very deceptive. There is no doubt that Toronto has the much better defense in this game, but Hamilton has the much better offense.

I think Hamilton will play very competitively and I'll take the points in a game that could very well be decided on the last play of the game.

This may be my last night of playing baseball. I have had some awesome nights and some brutal losses this year in MLB. Down about $350 for the season. Losing interest.

Time to start tracking W-L now that football is here:

1-0 (+1.8 units)

Tonight

Hamilton +4.5 (1 unit)

Dodgers -1.5 +140 (3 units)

Giants -1.5 +150 (1 unit)

cmon...you KNEW venus was going to win her 4th...heck, im not even sure why shes not in the mens bracket

im going to unload the funk on federer tomorrow...

af2 would be easy to bet..but ive never seen a line for it...

gb has won EVERY home game this year and has lost every road game..and usually blowouts....

just dropped some on milwaukee-washington over 9 runs....

the way suppan and simoncrappi have been pitching...i know its a pitchers park...but the brewers bats are starting to click and suppan always gives up 4....

Milwaukee/Washington OVER 9 , 1 unit PUSH

Cubs -132, 1 unit WIN

Dodgers -160, 1 unit Loss

Notes: Tomorrow, 7/8 is the Wimbledon championship. I know how good Federer is, but Nadal has beaten him in the past. Nadal has a pretty nice record on grass this year as well. If Nadal senses a weakness in his opponent, he'll stick the knife in his throat and finish the job. I think Federer might be too caught up in records he's setting and not concentrating on his very capable and aggressive opponent. No bet on it as of this second, but leaning towards Nadal +400. For those of you that remember how invincible Federer looked when he knocked out Nadal in the 1 st set last year during Wimbledon, but then looked very human after that, realize this is no easy match for Federer to win.

Atlanta +125, 1 unit W

2teamTeaser, Calgary +8 & Force -1/2, 1 unit L

2 team Parlay, Atlanta+133 & Atlanta/San Diego Over 8.5, 1 unit W

Notes: Last year at Wimbledon, Federer won 3-1. The odds last year were most favorable for a 3-0 win by Federer. This year the odds are remarkably the same. The oddsmakers, this year, are basically saying that the pendulum will swing back to 3-0 Federer wins. I'm betting against that. As you can see I bet Federer to win 3 sets to 2 sets at a payout of 6-1. If I win this one and lose the other 2 bets, I'm still up 4 units. If Nadal wins 3 sets to 1 or 3 sets to 0, I only win 1.75 units. But it's still winning. If Nadal wins 3 sets to 2 sets, I win 9.75 units. If Federer wins 3 sets to 1 or 3 sets to 0 , I lose 3 units.

good luck all

9 runs in the brewers-nats game...fock me... :dunno:

forget my advice on why and how...im on a bad run...

still have federer to win it all from the start...

going with federer to win at -550

and a lil on federer to win 3-1 at 2/1

its KEY to see how the lefty serves..if he can push federer off the court etc...

nadal has nice odds +400 to beat a rusty (maybe) federer in the 1st set...

but ive seen him too many times in person to bet against him...

Have any of you guys actually been to Vegas and placed bets in the sportsbooks there?

I have never been there but my girlfriend is moving there and with how hard it is to bet online these days I was gonna have her place bets for me.

What is the process? Are the sportsbooks in the casinos?

You just walk up to a teller and place the bet? Can you find more info online? Like what there odds are? How do you collect?

Thanks.

Yep, the sportsbooks are in the casinos. And yes, you just walk up to a teller and place the bet. It's kind of like McDonald's only with the wagers and scores listed instead of food so all the odds are right in front of you. You collect by going back to the teller, or at least the same place you made the bet, and showing your ticket. I've never tried collecting at a casino that I did not make the bet. So, it's of utmost importance not to lose your ticket.

Edit: Also, there are a ton of thiefs there and rip off artists, so you don't want to start making friends as your purchasing tickets.

AFL: 18-15; +1.35 units (season is over for me)

CFL: 6-4; +5.3 units

Baseball: 87-81; +28.12 units

Subset: Baseball 4 units or higher: 21-12; +32.18 units

WNBA: 6-4; +1.5 units

Thursday, posting everything I put in today...

Baseball for 4 units

Milwaukee (-162) WINNER

Detroit (-130) WINNER

San Diego (-130) WINNER

LA Dodgers (-128) LOSER

Baseball for 2 units

Parlay Chic Cubs + LAAngels to win 3.22 units WINNER

Colorado (-108) LOSER

Atlanta (-180) WINNER

CFL

Montreal (-2.5) for 1 unit LOSER

British Columbia (-15.5) for 1 unit LOSER

Montreal horrible offense is looking a bit better, and finally started to move the ball last week. Winnipeg is 2-14 SU in Montreal last 16 games, and really struggle defensively on the road.

British Columbia looks like the class of the CFL this year, again. Hamilton hung around with Montreal last week, but are rotating Maas and Chang, and lack any consistency on offense. Two very long passes gave Hamilton their 2 TDs last week, and BC looks to me as the best defense in the CFL at this point. I can't see anything but a blowout, despite BC starting backup QB Pierce, who is the best backup QB in the CFL.

Good luck to all.

Edit:

AFL: 18-15; +1.35 units (season is over for me)

CFL: 6-6; +3.1 units

Baseball: 92-83; +38.06 units

Subset: Baseball 4 units or higher: 24-13; +39.06 units

WNBA: 6-4; +1.5 units

It's hard to imagine how Saskatchewan can get up for this game. In a showdown last week in Sask with two undefeated teams, themselves and British Columbia, Sask basically imploded. They turned it over 7 times, let BC march up and down the field, and had QB issues as they had to shuffle QBs, as both sucked last week. So Sask found out about themselves, that they are not yet in BCs class. Actually, I am questioning Sask a lot right now myself. They beat Montreal week 1 by 16-7, as Montreal was breaking in their new offense. Then they blew out Calgary, but Calgary went on to get blown out at Toronto too, so I can't read much into that. I may have overestimated them this early in the new season under a new coach. Now, they have to drag themselves up off the carpet and travel for the start of a home and home set with Edm. Sask is a nice team, mostly decent on defense. However, that defense is centered around pressure on the QB. This is a fundamental problem, as Edmonton has an excellent, rebuilt offensive line, giving QB Ricky Ray all day to throw, as we see by his 66% completion rate. Edmonton has a chance to really slingshot upwards their season tonight after missing the playoffs last year for the first time in nearly 30 years. The only game they struggled so far this year was at British Columbia. They went 1-0-1 vs Winnepeg. Edmonton's rebuilt defense (yes, they did a lot of rebuilding this offseason) has rapidly improved every game this season, and now welcomes their most important defensive play, LB AJ Glass, back into the lineup for the first time this year. Interesting to note that Edmonton missed the playoffs last year, Sask made it to the semifinals in the playoffs last year, yet Edmonton went 3-0 SU vs Sask last year. They recently just have their number. Lay the lumber.
