For All You Timberwolve fans our there (I know there are a few)

Recommended Posts

Here are some highlights of the newcomers brought in for next year:

Gerald Green - needs to improve his all around game

Al Jefferson - going to be a star!

Sebastian Telfair - needs to show up to produce or go home (if he doesn't end up in jail)

Ryan Gomes - haven't heard much about this guy (12 points, 6 rebs per game, 31 minutes - not bad)

Cory Brewer - LOVE this kid, could be really special!

Now that T-Hud is gone, if we get rid of Ricky Davis, I will watch these guys. They may not win much, but should be interesting........at least for a few weeks! Give it 3-4 years, and we might have something........

That does suck.

But this should cheer you up-- my high school graduation was held in the Target Center back in 1992. :pointstosky:

Not a Boston or Minny fan, but here is my opinion.

I feel like this was a very even trade. Although Boston will get the chance to be contenders in the East now, the wolves got a lot of young talent in return, if 2 or 3 of them explode in the next year or two (which is very likely), the wolves might be 1 draft away from being a contender in the west.

Huge fan of Green, who stepped up last year with a struggling Celts team.

Al Jefferson, at age 22, is already a top 20 PF, I think he can only get better.

Also, Brewer, what a player. If he gets a shooting touch, he will be a great player.

Being a C's fan here's my take on the players that the T-Wolves obtained:

Al Jefferson-Has a chance to be a big time low post scorer. He really took his game to another level the second half of last year. For him to truly be a star he must improve his defensive game. He can rebound but he needs a lot of work defensively. One other issue with him is injuries. He's had his share for such a young player. Overall for this deal to work out for Minny Big Al needs to turn into a pretty regular All Star which he can definetly do with some hard work.

Gerald Green-I do not like him. He has serious athletic skills but his game has huge holes in it. I also have my doubts as whether he will improve them. He's exciting as hell to watch and the upside is there but he is a project and a few years away from potentally being a player you can rely on. He's the type of guy you let someone else develop.

Sebastian Telfair-Complete garbage. Absolute product of the New York City hype machine.

Ryan Gomes-A quality player who shows up every night and looks like he'll eventually turn into a leader. He can do a little bit of everything. It's just too bad that he wasn't either bigger or a Point Guard because he's in that tweener area which doesn't help his value. He's the type of guy that could really help a good team but his impact won't be too great for a bad team like Minny or the C's last year.

Theo Ratliff-The contract is one that makes him very attractive if Minny's looking to make another move.

Jefferson has the ability to be a steady post player for years to come. A star? I don't know. Like all the HS post players that made the jump, he has to show the commitment to doing it every night for 40 minutes. But he appears to have the ability, and quality, consistent bigs have their own level of importance in the NBA.

I like Green, and think he has the skills and attitude to become a big time NBA scorer. Raw? Sure. He needs a ton of seasoning. I thought Boston would have been foolish to trade him pre-draft, when this deal first was mentioned. Now, with Allen & Pierce, his minutes and shots are gone. Five years from now, I believe the story will be how Boston's two Eastern titles made it look like the stole KG, but Green's development into a top 20 player has turned the tide long-term.

Gomes seems to be a good guy and player, but he's worthless on a bad team. His career is as a solid PF who can come off the bench and provide a little scoring. Never will be a starter on anything but a really bad team. That should work for the one year he'll be in Minnesota, because they'll be a really bad team.

Ratliff's nothing but a contract, dollars on paper for cap purposes.

Telfair is a year or two away from being out of the league. Look for him in Sports Illustrated's 2015 'Where Are They Now?' issue.

Brewer can be a contributor right away because of his defense and size. But he's going to have to be paired with extremely good ball handlers, because he dribbles like it's on fire.

Hated Ainge as a player, and still do. But he hasn't done nearly as bad a job in Boston as most would claim. They've now become the East's best team...and it's not even that close...overnight. It makes me want to kill someone.

McHale has had an interesting couple career tracks, supplanting Elgin Baylor on the list of great forwards, then on the list of horrible GM's who apparently will never be fired. If Green & Jefferson pan out, he'll have stumbled onto a new long-term plan to systematically destroy.

If I were the Wolves I would have taken Amare Stoudemire a few weeks ago instead of all the garbage they received yesterday

I will take this "garbage" over Amare. He alone could not have done anything here. That would be a worse scenario than having Garnett, since Amare is not a versatile. Without Nash, Amare would probably be average at best, especially with what the Wolves would put around him. This young group will get some attention as long as they open it up and make the game enjoyable to watch. I am not sure that Wittman has what it takes to get these guys to perform, but we will see.

Wittman's been the coach of a rebuilding team with a little young talent before- see his previous job with the Cavs.

Make no mistake, the 'Wolves will be horrible this year, but they've got expiring contracts, draft picks, and a couple young players that can be pretty good. There's light at the end of the tunnel.
