That's St. Vincent's, that's my hood ... if you look, you can see a line in the background ... that's the line to give blood I was talking about. That line went around the corner and down the block, all the way to 6th Avenue. They turned most of us away. 2 important questions .. Did you eat breakfast .. and ... do you know your blood type? For me it was "No, no." And they said, "Go home." So that's what I did. Actually, I went back to work first, and then a group of us made a trek back to Jersey. And on 9/12/2001 ... I got up and took the PATH train to work again ... under the Hudson River. Did my job ... like the politicians asked us to do ... but yeah, taking the PATH train freaked me out after that .... so, I moved back into Manhattan. Chelsea, actually. FEMA gave me like $25k to relocate ... and I left my job and went back to school. But this was the brilliant part. My landlord ripped me off ... and I went ahead and paid the rent he asked for the first year. So, FEMA was sending me checks to pay my rent after 9/11, but in the end I sued my landlord for overcharching me; among other things. It was found that he had to pay me back tripple what he overcharged me as a penalty. How smart is that? Government cuts you a check to pay your rent, you live in Chelsea, go to grad school, and when it's all over .... the landlord pays you back every penny to settle the lawsuits. Giants Fan 85 Posted November 24, 2007 AND THEN ..... you relocate, buy a Jeep, and declare bankruptcy before Bush changes the rules ... and save $25k there with a dismissed private student loan. Sorry, if that makes you upset, but it was all 100% legal and legit. Complain all you want .... it was all legal and I only went bankrupt because I had to. When it's all said and done ... I pay $250 a month on my student loans ... and that's all I pay in debt each month. I have no credit card debt now. Actually, I have a Capital One No Hassle Dividend miles card that I charge everything too. Gas, groceries, even car insurance, cable and rent! I pay it in full every month. I haven't paid a cent to them and I have over 15k in miles. Sorry ... but ... YOU COULD DO IT TO! Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Giants Fan 85 Posted November 24, 2007 AND ... I got a couple grand in an Orange savings account ... I own 2 Jeeps .... couple grand in a 401k. Went belly up 2 years ago. Was at zero. Never shoulda cashed my 401k out because it's protected ... but I had bills to pay. I bought 31.x shares ... or whatever it was, $500 worth of AAPL back in 1997 ... since then it's split twice ... so today it'd be 125 shares. That's more than 20 grand. From a $500 investment over 10 years ... if I had kept it. And I had some good ideas ... when everyone was jumping on Time Warner/AOL ... I had ideas like Apple and Ebay. Had some losers too ... When the planes hit I was in New Boston, Texas Brooklyn getting ready to cross the Gil Hodges bridge. As soon as I heard about the attacks on the radio saw the planes hit I instinctively called my wife went to the Hospital to give blood. I don't like to think of myself as a hero but I obviously have "proof" that I was there with this picture. Hell, I forgot about this one but here is a picture that I found on Google Images took while riding in a car with you..
