Switching from a touchpad to a mouse

Recommended Posts

I just bought a Dell laptop and a Microsoft wireless mouse. I plugged the mouse in to the USB port. The receiver light and the mouse light are both on. The device manager says the mouse is working but I can't get it to do anything. Do I have to shut the touchpad off or change some setting somewhere?

You shouldn't have to do any thing. I plug in my w/l mouse to my Dell laptop and it works.

I would suggest googling...maybe there is a driver you need to install.

trying attaching another device to see if it works (keyboard, etc)....

I just had this issue with my work laptop and i believe they had to replace the system board.

I've seen it take a few minutes before the mouse will work. Also, try rebooting with the mouse plugged in before doing anything else. Then google the issue.
