Can someone explain to me the issue with the nfl network and cable companies

Recommended Posts

is it because the nfl wants it to be a part of the regular cable package, i.e. mtv, tnt? and not like the movie channels where you have to pay a monthly fee?

Peter King wrong a very indepth article about the situation in MMQB last week.

You can still find it on si.com - It really has everything anyone needed to know about it, and much more. I couldn't really get through all of the specifics, all I knew was that I get it in New Orleans.

The more amusing situation is what is going on between the BigTen network and cable companies. On tv and

even the radio, both sides were putting up commercials attacking each other like it was a political campaign.

cable commercial: You won't get to see your team this week because it's on the BigTen network. They want to be

on the normal cable package which would force us to raise the rates on all cable customers, not just sports fans.

It's time to throw the flag (yellow flags thrown about in background) on the BigTen network.

a second later...

BigTen commercial: You won't get to see your team this week because certain cable companies refuse to make the

BigTen network part of their basic package. They claim they will have to raise your rates. But other cable and satellite

providers offer the BigTen network at no extra cost. Call this number and tell them what you think about that....

seems simple to me, cable companies = lying.

BTN & NFL - We want our channel to be on basic cable so people won't b1tch too much because they can't see the games they want also we make more money.

Suckcast & Time Warner - We want to put those channels in a special sports tier with a bunch of other channels nobody gives two sh1ts about so we charge even more money to our customers there by making more money

I really wish cable and satellite companies had an a la carte service. I probably have 300 channels but only watch 10-15 of them.

In the end the only people that are going to be screwed is us.
