Well, that's what I call a catastrophe!

We caught the nasty northeastern edge of that thing and had 100-mph winds blasting our asses for hours.

I've got catastrophic tree damage. I mean, my back yard looks like focking Vietnam

One little focker caught a corner of the house, took out the weather head and meter, did some structural damage to the house, kicked a fence's ass and put a bunch of dents in my car.

Another tree obliterated my backyard shed. There's like one wall left standing.

A huge oak in my yard snapped in half and crushed my neighbor's car like a rotten grape.

I was talking to him in the driveway earlier in the evening, and he was bragging so much about how much he knew about the storm that he knew exactly where to park his cars to avoid damage.

The storm scared the crap out of the kids.

Meanwhile, all assemblance of news-coverage order has deteriorated, and to make a short story long, I'm sitting at a computer at an air-conditioned hospital, grabbing crap off our web site, re-writing it and sending it to our makeshift copy desk in Jasper for laying out for the print edition.

I need a big, strong drink.

Pictures?!

Also, sorry to hear about your situation. Was Buttmont originally expected to take such a nasty hit?

No, they were saying it would hit at about midnight and be back down to tropical-storm force by 7 a.m.

I woke up about 4 a.m. and just lay in bed going ;) with every wind gust, just waiting for something to smack into the house.

By 6 a.m., I thought we were out of the woods, but then the wind just kept picking up and picking up, and I thought, "HOLY SHAT!!! THIS IS A HURRICANE AND GETTING WORSE!!"

And it got worse.

BAM! went the trees. It all happened in about an hour timespan.

Too bad one of the trees didn't take out your music.

Selfish focking trees

Also, glad to hear you are O.K.

I thought I'd heard somewhere that the Beaumont and Port Arthur area weren't supposed to take a significant hit this time around. I do remember right before going to bed that forecasters suddenly predicted a more north to north easterly turn than originally expected. Ugly. Hardly any real warning since it came so late.

Hope you are able to return to normalcy as soon as can be expected.
