Who to Drop?

Recommended Posts

Concerns team with Favre. (see signature)

This is a little long but promise to help you in detail...

Had Garrard. Dumped him because don't like his prospects with an O line that figures to be severely depleted for most of the season and replaced with Trent Edwards since like schedule and his nearly errorless play. Also got Michael Bush (dropped Mendenhall for now) to cover for McFadden.

Then the newest member of our league dropped Hasselbeck for Jason Campbell. I sort of understand for the near term (sort of...Hass has a good match up and some add'l help this week) but for the long term I think it was a bad move, esp. since he has several weak WRs he could've dropped instead. Anyway, I scooped up Hass for either a trade package or to keep, just grabbed and figured would sort it out later. I dropped my kicker for the time being.

I've offered several trades packaging Parker (sell high maybe with his schedule coming up) with combos of Hass or Edwards and DeAngelo & R. Brown depending on the other owner's shortages at QB (guys with Palmer, Derek Anderson, Bulger, etc.) or at RB (guys with Ahman Green, etc) but no bites. Maybe they know I'll have to drop someone and they can get for free but then they have to go through waivers, etc. and drop someone else anyway to make room.

Anyway my roster is illegal without a kicker, so if last minute trade attempts fail, I'll have to drop someone.

Who?

Edwards -- Could be picked up by several guys in a bad way at QB. Like his schedule for myself but figure his #'s won't be great, but good.

Hass -- Bad situation now but I really think it'll improve with the additions of Koren and Colbert in the short term and Engram and Branch and Morris plus the emergence of JJ. I don't think he'll be as good as the last few seasons obviously but hate to waive and get nothing in return.

DeAngelo -- Carolina's history is RBBC and he'll probably be at the short end of the split with Stewart. But schedule is favorable, he's nominally the starter on a good team, and if Stewart goes down (has some injury history) then he'll be the guy there.

R. Brown -- Bad running game, bad offense, coming off ACL repair, RBBC, but easy schedule, probably will be the starter eventually and seems to be improving but very doubtful will near last year's form this season.

I know I have 2 defenses but I want Giants for this first stretch of the season and Bills to cover them on the bye next week since they face the Rams and then for the 2nd half of the season when the Giants' schedule stiffens. Plus the Bills have a good special teams and my league rewards that. Last year and 2 years before that rotating Defenses by match up served me well in winning two titles.

Look at a couple of things here........

Ronnie Brown - How long does it really take to come back from a serious knee injury..........usually 12 - 18 months and he is month 10 or 11 right now. I would expect more of the same from him with only a slight possible increase.

DeAngelo Williams - A threat to score every time he touches the ball sharing time with a rookie.

Michael Bush - A great talent, but McFadden did practice today and I would expect Al Davis to insist he will be the featured back in that offense.

Hang on to your QB's......the season is still young and you will get something for one of them eventually.

My advice would be to drop Bush(#1) or Brown (#2)....depending on how your league works you may even be able to pick one of them back up again in the future.

Sorry for not being able to help much, but the most I can say is R. Brown. I don't think he will have a big fantasy season at all. I think he is the safest to drop, I think DeAngelo Williams will do fine this year, even with Stewart, so I would keep him.

Thanks.

I would either drop Williams or Ronnie Brown. Carolina might start giving the ball to Jonathan Stewart more, along with the goalline carries. And it seems like Ronnie and Ricky are splitting even time down in Miami right now.

I know this is going to be unpopular, but I would drop the Giants. Buffalo is for real and there is really no good reason to cary to Ds when you can have Hass.

I'm with this guy. There is no need to keep two defenses and all of these guys have potential to put up points. If you are dead set against dropping a D, then drop Williams. He is the most likely to see decreased product over the course of the season.

I'd drop Ronnie Brown. Not just because of the ACL, because he has shown some flashes. As the Dolphins drop out of the hunt, I expect Ricky to take the majority of the beating because Ronnie is the future of Miami's running game, and there's no use busting him up during a lost season.

I agree. Hopefully you can make it work with the defenses bye weeks. If you can't swing it with bye weeks then Ricky or Bush should go.

Thanks for the help on mine!

Thanks for mine - I see what you mean about being in similar situations!

My initial reaction was to say drop Edwards just to maintain RB depth, but reread your message and see your perspective (same thing on my end). Since there are teams in serious need of a QB, ultimately you should be able to trade one. Just a matter of time and patience until someone gets a little more desperate. I take it they just rejected them outright without any counters? I'm sitting here just waiting and waiting but no response whatsoever...and I thought the same thing, that they were waiting for something to come onto waivers.

Secondly would say one of your defenses but you have made a plan to use both.

So...I'd say Brown or Williams is your best choice - and although it's only week three, I'm leaning towards dropping Williams. Brown likely will get more of the load as time goes on and has done better at the goal line (from what I've seen at least). While a bad offense, there's always some hope there while it seems Williams is being phased out. Really a bit of coin toss unless you find someone with a crystal ball!

Only other alternative is Bush but I'd keep at least for the short term. He's supposed to get his carries right now - said to be 20-25 while Fargas is out. Kiffin has said that Fargas will regain his spot when he's healthy but I'd think he'll go with whoever is producing in order to keep his job. Also, McFadden's turf toe could be worse than they're letting on or possible become aggravated which increases Bush's stock. I know a lot of if's but...

Know I basically reiterated what some said, but hope it helped.
