In 1st place, thin at RB, but can get Bush for Slaton

Recommended Posts

I can't decide what to do here. We start 1 qb, 2 wr's, 2 rbs, 1 te, 1 flex, 1 k, 1 def and this is a ppr league. The guy who has Bush has said he'll trade me Bush for Slaton. I am worried about Slaton hitting the rookie wall. Obviously there are risks that Bush doesn't come back strong from the knee surgery, but I have a 1 game lead on everyone right now and am thinking more along the line that I should be able to still make playoffs even if I make a move for Bush now. I know the next few weeks would be tough as I'd have to start Ward, but the Bush owner is likely to lose this week without a decent RB and his playoff chances would likely be over. He's told me if he loses this week, he won't move Bush as it is a keeper league and he'll just hang on to him for next year.

TIA

I currently have

QBs: McNabb, Roethlisberger

RB's: Westy, Slaton, Buckhalter, Ward, Torain

WR's: AJ, Marhsall, Calvin, V. Jackson

TE: Clark

Very tough call. Both have decent playoff schedules with tough matchups in week 15 (Bears for Bush, Titans for Slaton), but Bush is the higher caliber player and certainly a guy who could win you a championship. How confident are you that you can still make the playoffs with Ward as your #2 back? You're basically losing Bush for week 8, 10 (would have lost him on the week 9 bye anyway) and maybe 11. Can you get by with just 4-8 points a week from Ward?

I do see another option here, and that's to try to trade a WR or QB for an RB to hold you over after dealing Slaton for Bush. Maybe move Roethlisberger or Vincent Jackson? Both have been performing very well lately. Any owners with, say, Jamal Lewis or Lendale White as their 4th RB who need something there? Sammy Morris? Edge? Kevin Smith? I'd throw out either of the Carolina or Tampa backs as well, but they've got byes to go and that won't help you so much.

I think the trade is good if you can get someone to start over Ward, but pretty tricky otherwise.

I've been trying to get an RB3 all week with no luck at all. The only non-garbage RB offer I could get was Addai/Rhodes for AJ - which I have no interest in doing.

I think it's not worth it at all. With Dallas looking the way it does, defenses key on Barber and the run, and force Dallas to go pass when they get behind. Slaton's a huge part of the Houston offense, Westy's looking solid enough to be #1. Houston doesn't have the strong WR and QB options that Dallas does.

Keep it Westy/Buck #1 and Slaton #2.

Mine?

Stick with Slaton...Bush will be hampered in one way or another with his surgery. May sound wacky, but with the exception of Bush's returns (in our league return TDs only count if it was part of your D/ST), I like Slaton better.

I agree with the rest of the respondents, then--sit tight. Slaton is going to have some rough weeks ahead (Minnesota and Baltimore back to back in weeks 9 and 10) but will probably get enough going in the passing game to make him an acceptable second RB. If you can't get a decent RB to fill in while you wait for Bush, I wouldn't make the deal.
