Playoff seedings tiebreakers

Recommended Posts

10-team league with 2 divisions.

Top team in EACH division gets a Bye.

Top 4 remaining records, regardless of division get into playoffs

Here's where it get's hairy. Team A and B have the same record, are 1-1 head-to-head, Team B outscored Team A in total points and head-to-head points. But, Team A was 7-1 in their division and Team B was 5-2. An uneven number of games, mind you.

Has anyone played in a league where Team A gets the bye? Apparently this is Yahoo! default. And if division standings are so imporant, why don't 3 teams from each make the playoffs? Anyone ever experienced this?

Are both teams in the same division? If so, it would make sense to pick Team A.

If not, you should skip Division Record and go straight to Total Points.

But if you play in a Yahoo free league, you're probably screwed.

Same division. It is the free version of Yahoo, but a private league. I just can't believe total points isn't the tie breaker. The commish even thought it was, but did not state so until after the damage has been done.

Isn't that how they decide tie breakers in the nfl? Team A and Team B tie and have the same record. It then goes to head to head record, if they both tie in head to head it goes by overall division record.

Yep.

And OP, don't blame Yahoo. It's private league and the league rules were set by the commish. They could have changed any default they wanted. Usually, for FF purposes, overall record and then total points are all that's needed to settle ties, but has TheGJs said, your league is set up more like the NFL tiebreakers.

That's because:

1. all NFL teams in the same division play an equal number of games against each other.

2. in the NFL, head-to-head victories are a valid method of determining one squad's overall superiority. That's not necessarily the case in fantasy football.

(Unless you believe that a 85-39 win is a more valid example of a team's strength than a 144-145 loss.)

i have the same issue in YAHOO & they say that you can't change the playoff schedule. I am Comish (Plus League - custom) & in the Division format the league rules state that the tiebreaker is Division record. The Comish has no control over the tiebreaker. if you picked 1 division then the tiebreaker is total points.

OF YAHOO RULES:

If, at the end of the season, two or more players in a division finish with the same overall record, the following system will be used to decide the division winner:

1.Overall winning percentage.

2.Division winning percentage.

3.Fantasy points scored.

4.Fantasy points scored in Week 17.

5.Fantasy points scored in Week 16.

6.Fantasy points scored in Week 15.....

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/footballplus/rules/rules-21 .html

SO........... I emailed them & this was their responce:

I understand you would like to edit the playoff seeding of teams regardless of the actual standings. I apologize for any inconvenience. Regretfully, the feature you're requesting is not currently available. However, we'll be happy to forward this feature to the product team as an enhancement request. We appreciate your suggestion and we will give it consideration when we prioritize new features for Yahoo! Fantasy Sports.

SO...... i am sure that they will not change this for me or you.

SO.... now I am trying to change the score on a game from last week to give the team w/ the best record & the most points the #1 slot as opposed to #3.

I even saw this coming & posted the Yahoo rules but thought i would be able to change the playoff seeding since you can change the reg season games.

TOTAL F'n MESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wrong. It's the Yahoo! default tie breaker, which my commish can't change. So he couldn't have changed anything he wanted.

Agree.

I am pissed. I tied for best record in the league and had the most points, thinking that finishing 7-0 and scoring 100+ for 7 straight weeks would get me in. All for naught.

Though I agree that the team with the more points should be in the playoffs, I would be at another of PISSED if the rules and outcomes were manipulated after the fact like that to "place" one team in the playoffs over another.

Once the season starts, or even once the draft ends, the rules are set in stone for the year. Find something you don't like, you fix it NEXT year! Don't change the rules in mid-stream.

rules were defined b4 draft & points were the tie breaker. The problem is that Yahoo didn't have the option or let you set your own seeding. All players knew & are totally cool w/ it.
