Blitzen 1 Posted February 28, 2013 I don't know... I would like to see a politician, preferably an independent, come out and say something like... "Look guys. We are right on the border of focked here. Everything our forefathers sweated and bled for is on the line. You all know the answer. We have to pay higher taxes, AND spend way less. And not for a year or two... a decade or two. Now, for decades, these two parties have sat here and told you that everything is ok. Well, its not. It hasn't been for a long time. You know it. You knew it then. But as a country, we have buried our heads in the sand rather than face reality. So this election, we decide. We succeed or we fail. We tighten our belts and sacrifice, or we leave a chaotic bankrupt wreck of an America to our children. My advisors told me not to say this, that it is political suicide. Well so be it. I'd rather commit career suicide than help America commit fiscal suicide. So my fellow Americans, its on you. No blaming the politicians... you decide. God Bless." I'd be interested to see what would happen. I think, deep down, many Americans, maybe most, would get on board with a politician that actually told them the truth like grown ups. Enough to win? Doubtful. But it would be interesting. People don't want to hear that from politicians...they want to hear that the State of the Union is strong and with some minor tweaks we'll get back to across the board prosperity. And look at Greece....politicians there waited until the international community basically forced them to take more drastic decisions before making them. Then it's like: oh the big bad international community is forcing this on us...if we had had a few more years we would have turned that ship around. Why would US politicians be any different? None of them want to be the bringers of significant belt tightening. Because they know that doing that will completely obliterate their party in the following elections. So they wait while shuffling deck chairs....not too many of them mind you or it'll rock the boat.
