Whitehurst threw to a WR and it was pitched several times with Whitehurst running and finally pitched to Walker who ran about 30 yards.

I'm pretty sure the last player with the ball gets the yardage. I recall a play where Randy Moss pitched one to I think Robert Smith after a long catch. Smith scored and got all of the yardage. It's a weird ruling for sure.
