They take something good like the fight against racism that 99% of the country now supports and go berserk with and and start having overreactions.

 

I really liked this show as a kid. I saw many, many episodes, what I never saw was one hint of racism. The flag was used in a totally appropriate way. The car is super cool and since the flag is on the car, it makes the flag cool too? Well yeah, maybe.

 

This reminds me of one of my most dumbass moments.

 

The Detroit suburb where I grew up, Eastpointe, hosts a cruise every year for old and classic cars. The owners come out and show off their cars and drive them up and down the main road there which has an island in the middle and you watch all these cars pass by. And of course, all the parking lots on the side of the roads are full of car enthusiasts. Cruisin' Gratiot is essentially a parade of classic cars. It's really cool.

 

So, you can predict where my story is going, one of the cars obviously was the General Lee. And I'm in awe that such an American icon has found it's way to Eastpointe. Is it a replica or the real thing? Well here's the owner and he's got the trunk popped open, photos of him with Tom Wopat, Denver Pyle, Sorrell Brooke, etc. it all looks really legitimate. But who's this guy, he's not related to the show in any way?

 

What I learned that day is they went through cars like crazy on that show since they got beat up so bad doing stunts. At least three per episode.

 

Oh, so there's not one car, there's likely a few dozen if not a couple hundred authentic General Lees that all got screen time floating around the country. This makes total sense. Why is it that that thought never occurred to me?
