T. Romo - update.

Recommended Posts

Actually I BELIEVE the third tiebreaker is common opponents record.

1. Head to Head

2. Best winning % in Division games

3. Best winning % of common opponents

I've never once figured Dallas into the picture - still don't if 8-8 wins takes it... right now - the entire ball is in NY's court. They are the only team that can get to 9-7 and the most likely team to get to 8-8 of the bunch.

However - if 7-9 ends up leading this division, all 4 still have a shot.

Yeah--would be hard to bet against the Giants at this point. DAL largely controls its destiny vs the skins, but NY is clearly in the driver's seat.

I understand you guys can't say it, so I will...

Dallas wins that division.

Though it was against a weak Miami team, yesterday's game was typical Dallas football circa 2014. That's what having Romo does for them. The passing game was cranked back up, to include a Terrence Williams sighting. And with McFadden (and potentially Turbin) the running game is rounding into last year's form. The Boys controlled the clock for 38 whopping minutes, yesterday, including a huge game killing drive in the fourth. This in turn kept the defense fresh, which led to big plays, of which Dallas has had none. The defense has actually played well this season, Dallas is 11th in the league in yards allowed but they are minus 9 in TO ratio on the year. Dallas had also been running the ball through the losing streak, averaging 123 yds with a TOP of 34 minutes a game. With Romo back, and a resurgent McFragile (and more importantly with Turbin behind him), that running game should kick into high gear.

New York on the other hand has been on borrowed time. I can't even see them going .500 down the stretch, not with that defense. They are 31st in yards allowed giving up a whopping 420 yards and 23 first downs per game. Their 309 passing yards allowed per game is worse than either the Aints OR Raiders. And as well as the offense has played, it doesn't see the field enough as the defense is 28th in the league in total possession allowed. The only thing keeping this unit above water is it's +13 turnover ratio, a stat which is more likely to change than the overall defensive numbers.

There's much discussion about which teams in the NFC East have the easiest remaining schedules, of which that answer on paper is probably the Skins. But that should be adjusted for the current situation, as the Skins have Dallas left twice. Hands down, right now, the Cowboys are the best team in the division. What's more, their game Thursday against Carolina will go a long way towards determining if they're back as an NFC power. Here's how I see it going down-

NYGiants 5-5 (finishes 7-9)

@ WASH- loss

NYJ- win

@ MIA- loss

CAR- loss

@MIN- loss

PHI- win

Washington 4-6 (finishes 7-9)

NYG-win

DALL- loss

@CHI-win

BUFF-win

@PHI- loss

@DALL- loss

Philadelphia 4-6 (finishes 5-11)

@DET- loss

@NE- loss

BUFF- loss

AZ- loss

WASH- win

@NYG- loss

Dallas 3-7 (finishes 7-9)

CAR- loss

@WASH- win

@GB- loss

NYJ- win

@BUFF- win

WASH- win

The first tiebreaker among multiple teams vying for a division title is all play, of which records between NYG, WASH, and DALL in above scenario would be

NYG- 2-2

WASH- 1-3

DALL 3-1

Dallas wins division.

Dallas wins division.

Nice post.

I mentioned it coming down to DAL and NYG above. I'm certainly not going to bet against DAL pulling it off, but they certainly have their work cut out for them.

That said, I despise that organization and ownership. Jerry Jones is scum. They may very well have run away with the division had Dez and Romo not been injured, but as a human first and football fan second – I'm going to root against any team employing a guy like Greg Hardy.

Darren Sharper. That guy is scum. Surprised he was never a Cowboy.

If it plays out that 7-9 can take it - I think we win it.... But I think 8-8 is more likely - and for sure nobody is getting to 9-7... It's NY's to lose.

Big game Thursday. Cowboys beat Carolina and they may run the table. They've got to keep Romes upright. Another 25 pass attempt game will do it.

We basically have to split one of the next 2 games. If we can do that - we have a shot. But we aren't running the tables at 6-0 the rest of the way, just not happening. We always seem to gag one away to Washington and the Buffalo game, on the road, late Dec. is going to be extremely tough.

For the record - I think we can beat Carolina Thursday... Not saying we will, but I think it goes down to the wire.

If they crank up that running game, and right now there's no reason to believe they won't, they're as good as any team in the NFC home or away.

Agreed. Sharper is a complete POS as well.

We had a prop bet among friends on the odds Jones signed Ray Rice after Randle's departure. Went down to 5:1 at one point.
