The beginning of the end of college football is starting.  Soon, it'll be 10 big time schools in a new conference, and everyone else.  Let's be honest, it's pretty much that now.  It's teams in the SEC, a couple in the Big 10, and a flash in the pan team from the ACC and/or the Pac-10... the Big 12 has gone the way of the Big East.  I think you will start to see some HBCU's start getting into the mix, and once that happens, the shift will be on.  I'd wager that in about 10 years, the college football landscape as you know it, will be gone forever.
