BeenHereBefore 1,517 Posted September 24, 2023 The date is September 24th, 1970, and it's a Thursday. Anyone born today will have the star sign Libra. Schools and colleges are starting again, and fall has officially arrived. As a result, temperatures are beginning to cool, and trees are starting to shed their leaves. The earthy smells of autumn have started to fill the air. In America, the song Ain't No Mountain High Enough by Diana Ross is at the top of the singles charts. Over in the UK, Band Of Gold by Freda Payne is the number-one hit song. Richard Nixon is the President of the United States, and the movie MASH is at the top of the box office. Edward Heath is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. It's 1970, so radio stations are playing hit songs from artists such as Elvis Presley, Mungo Jerry, Shocking Blue, Diana Ross, Simon & Garfunkel, The Jackson 5 and The Carpenters. In fashion, the hippie look from the 1960s is still popular. Clothing items such as tie dye shirts, bell-bottoms, midi skirts, gauchos and Mexican blouses are being worn by women. Meanwhile, men are wearing dark satin shirts, ethnic-looking tunics, bell bottom jeans, tweed sports jackets and turtlenecks. If you were to travel back to this day, notable figures such as Janis Joplin, Charles de Gaulle, Sonny Liston, and Coco Chanel would all still be alive. On TV, people are watching popular shows such as "What's My Line?", "Columbo", "Adam-12", and "The Flip Wilson Show". Kids and teenagers are watching TV shows such as "The Bugs Bunny Show", "Dastardly and Muttley in Their Flying Machines", "The Brady Bunch", and "The Clangers". Popular toys at the moment include Troll doll, Ken (doll), Army men, and Crissy (doll).
