10/3/1982

Recommended Posts

The date is October 3rd, 1982, and it's a Sunday. Anyone born today will have the star sign Libra. People are currently enjoying their weekend. However, because it's a Sunday, some are dreading the week ahead.

The summer is long gone. Temperatures have started to become much cooler and the evenings are beginning to get darker. Fallen leaves have carpeted driveways, lawns, pathways, and sidewalks. There is also a fresh, earthy scent in the air. In America, the song Hard To Say I'm Sorry by Chicago is at the top of the singles charts.

Over in the UK, Eye Of The Tiger by Survivor is the number-one hit song. Ronald Reagan is the President of the United States, and the movie E.T. is at the top of the box office. Margaret Thatcher is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

On television, people are watching popular shows such as "Happy Days", "Three's Company", "Dallas", and "Knight Rider". In fashion, women are wearing jelly shoes, turtleneck sweaters, loose high-waist pants, crop tops, and puffer jackets lined with fur. Meanwhile, men have been ditching the disco look of the 1970s in favor of athletic clothing such as tracksuits and sports jerseys. The "preppy" look has also been making a comeback. Because it's 1982, the radio stations are being dominated by artists such as Survivor, Men at Work, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Dexys Midnight Runners, Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder.

If you were to travel back to this day, notable figures such as Dominique Dunne, Karen Carpenter, and Jobriath would all still be alive. People are playing video games such as "Space Invaders", "Lunar Lander", "Galaxian", and "Donkey Kong". Kids and teenagers are watching TV shows such as "Sesame Street", "The All New Popeye Hour", "The New Adventures of Flash Gordon", and "Cockleshell Bay".

Children are playing with toys such as the Easy-Bake Oven, Lego Technic, Cabbage Patch Kids, and My Little Pony (figures).
