Hawkeye21 2,399 Posted May 2 I think it's time to upgrade my router after 8 years. I know some of you guys are pretty techie, what are your recommendations for a quality router than can cover 3,000 sq ft? We have a lot of devices connected and in use every day. Lots of streaming and gaming as well. I have a few models in mind but was curious what you have experience with.
Ron_Artest 1,520 Posted May 2 It's not the router, it's the wifi. Get a mesh wifi. You can use it with your current router, just turn off the wifi and use the mesh wifi. Google makes a good one. I have deco, it's good.

I still think I should replace my wifi router. It's suggested to replace them about every 5 years.

Do you even own your router? You can probably get one for free from your Internet provider. Fios gives you one for free. The router doesn't need to be the wifi. I want to replace it with something fairly high-end like this, https://a.co/d/gIIFN2U

Seems like overkill. 10g ports? Do you even have 10g service? LED that displays the weather? ok. You would also need to buy mesh units for that. My recommendation would be to get a free router from your provider, then buy a mesh system with several mesh units, place them around your house, and you're golden. Have to rent from my provider and I'm not doing that. I am considering getting a mesh system though. This one is a better price and has mesh system abilities. https://a.co/d/iA6AiyB
Hawkeye21 2,399 Posted May 2 The more I look the more I think I should go with the Deco BE25 WiFi 7 mesh system.
EternalShinyAndChrome 4,102 Posted May 2 I bought the Deco be63 three pack for $449 on Amazon. It's been pretty good so far. There was a period there where one of the satellites would keep dropping the connection, but a firmware upgrade seemed to fix that. I've been pretty happy with the results so far. Seriously, though. Every other manufacturer you're going to pay anywhere from $300 to $1,500 more for a three pack. They're very reasonably priced and the competition is just so overpriced. You're almost forced to go with it. I bought a three pack of orbeez about 8 years ago for 450 bucks and now they want $1,000 or $2,000 for their three pack. It's absurd.
