Atlantic City casinos going busto

Recommended Posts

Revel, Trump .... ya know every day I walk into the casino I say to myself, "Thank you." for these morons at the slot machines.

Thank you for making it so, I can have a "job" and make money, just because I am smart. Without you idiots that want to gamble for entertainment ... there's no poker room.

Not only do I provide rake for the casino I tip well, but I almost never play -ev games like slots.

But the rest of you should. Get your money in bad over, and over, and over ... and over time, if you include comps ... You will still lose money.

But thanks tho ... without all you idiots playing slots ... i effectively can't find work.

Today, a guy won like a $600 pot and he got up to cash out. Tossed the dealer $2.

That's offensive really. I even said to her, "OMG! He tipped you!? That may be the only time I have seen him tip." ... and the dealer didn't say anyhing, she's a pro. I told some other poker player, "That guy never tips." Dealer didn't say anything. "I may be wrong, not my job to monitor bad tippers. Am i wrong dealer? You ever seen him tip?"

The guy next to me had not noticed ... i was pointing it out and he was amazed. Dealer is not supposed to say anything, but I asked her again, "Does he ever tip?"

She said, "Well, I will just say, you are more right than you are wrong."

He's black too. Way to perpetuate the stereotype! Dickhead.

Here's what I generally do. I put a $1 chip on my cards as a protector ..If I win the hand, I slide my hand, face down, usually, to the dealer with the chip on top as a tip.

Sometimes, if I just win the blinds ... Like I win $3 on the hand but risked $25 ... i wont tip that hand, but generally any pot over $10 that I win, I will tip the dealer at least a buck.

Prolly too generous ... win a hand, tip a buck ... win a big hand, tip 2$-$5

When I won the BBJ ... I tipped the guy $600. That was based on a lot of things. He's a good dealer. Some other guys might have only got $300.

Here's my favorite latest thing ...sometimes you forget to tip. You are so caught up in the hand or whatever. So big pots like this, I will not tip ... and then a feww minutes later. I will say to the dealer, "Did I get you there?" As in, did I remember to tip?

Here's the funny part, they are supposed to say yes, even if I did forget. "Yes, you tipped me." ... even when I didn't.

So, it's interesting to intentionally miss a tip and then ask, and then see the dealer reaction.

One guy ... Just wont respond, act like he can't hear you ... Pretty funny.

"Dude ... did I get you there?" and he will sit silent. They are not supposed to say "no, you did not tip me that hand"

Atlantic City is going busto because all the people who used to go (from NJ, NY, Philly and DE) have their own casinos now. Instead of reading the writing on the wall an attempting to reinvent itself as a family beach locale or something, AC doubled down on the high end casino / resort thing and it's been a massive failure.

The Revel cost $1 billion to build less than five years ago and management told their employees this year they're going to close if they can't find a buyer in 6 months.

I went to a conference in AC earlier this year and the city is a total dump BTW. The Revel is an awesome hotel though, $200/night for one of the biggest, best suites I've ever stayed in. But the city is where hookers go to die.

AC is a giant dump...

Does GF realize that all the dealers split tips? So tipping $600 doesn't go in the pocket of the 'good dealer'

I think what you do here is take a step back and realize that none of this story really happened?

It did happen, GF produced a degen gamblers newsletter blog that talked about his big lucky score... Whether he actually tipped that big is up for debate, but regardless, for someone who is a degen reg, you'd expect him to know about shared dealer tips

I think he said he showed up at the guy's house and gave it to him there.
