The senators decide funding and the governor has power too. My point is that Pennsylvania won’t be decided on the fracking issue. You make it sound like it’s completely unreasonable for anyone in that state (or anywhere else to support Harris.) IMO she’s the only choice a reasonable person could make.

It’s not that hard to refute you, to be honest. Pennsylvania just elected a Democratic governor and Senator, both of whom have similar stances to fracking that Kamala has (was against it now for it) and both of whom have way more influence in terms of stopping or slowing down fracking if they wanted to than the President would. There are about a zillion good reasons to vote for Harris over Trump and economic issues are one of them. And she’s ahead in Pennsylvania.

Yes it’s a serious question: what difference does it make? It’s internal polling from the GOP. It’s negative for Trump. It still stunned people. That it’s not from Trump directly changes nothing in the story. This is why it’s YOU who is not a serious poster, because you nitpick rather than tackle the issues at hand. I always thought it was money, brilliance, and oversized genitalia. But I guess that’s just a personal anecdote.

So there’s a ton of articles out there today about Trump surging ahead. But if you look deeper at them it’s not happening. That doesn’t mean it won’t. But in most polls Harris remains ahead, just by smaller margins, and in a few she’s tied. This is true both nationally and in the most important of the swing states. Now many people are arguing that a 1 point lead or tie for Harris is actually a win for Trump because of the “hidden Trump vote”. But that assumes that pollsters are repeating the same mistakes made in 2016 and 2020 and I’m not buying it. It also assumes that there is no hidden Harris vote among Republicans and I’m not quite buying that either. I expect there will be some real surprises on election night but it’s anyone’s guess in which direction those surprises will fall. For now, I think we should assume that a 1 point lead or a tie is exactly what it is supposed to be: a 1 point lead or a tie. And given the current numbers I would still rather be in Harris’ position rather than Trump’s. At the moment she still has the advantage however slight.

I agree with this too. As I tried to explain in the OP, I’m more concerned about the effects of Trump’s policies, most of which I pretty strongly disapprove of, than I am about his threat to democracy. On the other hand his friendship and emulation of Viktor Orban is a bit unnerving. @jerryskids I completely disagree with your opinion of Kamala Harris and your estimation of her abilities. But I find your analysis of Trump to be more reasonable and fairly compelling. If he wins I certainly hope your comment to me about the tariffs turns out to be accurate.

In analyzing Trump (always a difficult task) I feel like he is more of a King Henry VIII type of tyrant than a Hitler type- what I mean by this is that he cares much more about punishing his personal enemies than he does about any ideology or imposing whatever system on the rest of us. About that he is indifferent. If he becomes President again his redeeming factor is that he wants to be loved by everyone. He will quickly forgive people whatever transgressions if they profess their love for him. That means that if something is not working or goes wrong for the public he will quickly change his mind. That gives me hope that in the end things will be OK even during his Presidency no matter how much he screws up.

I’m so hoping this is true. But NBC, Emerson, Quinnipiac are all showing Trump gaining and none of them are right wing polls.

NBC poll had him 5 points down two weeks ago, now they’re tied. What are we supposed to conclude by this? Other polls from reputable sources also have Trump gaining. He’s not ahead yet but he’s at least caught up to her. I wish it wasn’t so, but if you look at this objectively I don’t see how you can reach any other conclusion than the momentum is currently on his side. Hopefully that changes.

The problem with this argument is that it implies Donald Trump was once normal. But listen to his racism and crazy ramblings and idiocy in 2016, and during his Presidency. He’s just as awful then as he is now.
