I absolutely would. That would be racist. And before you accuse me of a double standard, don’t bother. I’ll own it. I have a total double standard when it comes to this stuff because white people like you and me have privilege and are not subjected to historical and systemic racism in our society, while black and brown people are. Therefore I don’t care about comments made about white people, but I very much care about comments made about black and brown people.

Not only is she Colombian but when I was in Cartegena a few years back her image was on every street corner, every billboard. She was ubiquitous. Shakira, Shakira! Her hips don’t lie.

I strongly disapproved of Biden’s pardons. But I don’t believe they prove anything. One of the main reasons I disapproved of them is because I knew they would cause people on the right to be even more suspicious.

I had a dim view of Hunter Biden before that story and it hasn’t changed. The House under GOP control has spent the last two years trying to find ties between Hunter and Joe Biden’s campaign, and they found nothing. So I assume there isn’t anything. This is a non-story of little significance and the MSM reported it correctly IMO.

Yeah I’m naive. Ask yourself why 100 years of past Presidents didn’t pull this crap. Not Reagan, not Eisenhower, not Nixon, none of the guys that we regard as strong Presidents. Because they understood the vital importance of promoting friendship and stability in South America.

Let’s take the Jussie Smollett story for one example. A black celebrity says he was attacked by MAGAs in white hoods. He alerts the media. Do you expect the media not to report this? It’s news. When it turns out that he lied and paid the guys to do it, the media reported that too. Smollett comes away looking like a bad guy and an idiot, and the politicians that jumped to his defense look like fools for not waiting to learn the details. But how is any of this the responsibility of the mainstream media? How should they have behaved differently? I don’t see it. They did their job.

1. Russian collusion in the 2016 election really did happen per the Mueller report. Mainstream media didn’t lie about that; Fox News did. 2. The Hunter Biden laptop story was reported at the time but conservatives complained it wasn’t stressed enough and then later falsely insisted it was concerned up. In any event it was a minor story which had no impact on the 2020 election. 3. Charlottesville was correctly reported. Trump’s damning comments were caught on tape. 4. The MSM did not create the Bubba Wallace noose story; they reported what they were told at the time, which is their proper role. When the facts revealed it was not a hate crime that was reported to. 5. Jussie Smollett- see point#4. I could go on and on. The MSM didn’t lie in ANY of these stories.

Good morning. I just woke up and read your post, and I’m honored by the comparison. @TrailGuy is one of the best posters here, especially now. That being said I’m not a big fan of this Colombian President. There were all kinds of problems with his statement, IMO. It was largely a Marxist rant, not merely anti-Trump but anti-American, and littered with historical inaccuracies. I think Trump was an idiot and a bully for threatening to use tariffs on a minor matter like this, and as I wrote last night the consequences are unforeseen and won’t be good. But let’s not turn this Colombian dude into some kind of heroic figure.

The unreasonable part is threatening to slap a huge tariff over it. Seriously WTF is wrong with you?

I know you guys think this is a big victory: Trump got tough and Colombia surrendered. Big Alpha, right? Colombia didn’t have much choice. We are much more powerful and they rely on our trade. A lot of these small countries do and if we want to bully them we can. The reason that previous Presidents haven’t done it is not due to weakness but because it’s extremely unwise. It creates all kinds of resentment and almost guarantees enmity and lack of cooperation when we need it. Theodore Roosevelt used to say “talk softly and carry a big stick”- Trump apparently wants to talk loudly and threaten using the stick. The consequences are hard to predict but won’t be good.
