Apparently this sort of thing has helped in London and other cities. But frankly I have never loved the idea of trying to alter human behavior by punishment. I have a feeling this is going to fail.

I don’t understand what this means. Is it a toll road? What was it before?

4 years ago as I recall, President Trump claimed that most of the rioters were Antifa. Now he wants to pardon them.

I actually have been pretty critical of the MSM in recent times and I’m willing to acknowledge their flaws. But in the end I don’t see any alternative. The idea that everyone will simply seek out their own news source and believe whatever appeals to them is unacceptable to me. We’ve already seen the awful results of that- today is the 4 year anniversary. There is, IMO, no alternative for a stable society to having news reporting that almost everyone accepts. Therefore the MSM has to succeed.

It really has nothing to do with the post you were responding to. But as I wrote at the time, the Democratic Party is a private organization. They can choose a Presidential candidate by any means they wish. If you don’t like how the candidate was selected, you don’t have to vote for him or her.

Nancy Pelosi never allowed a vote to take place unless she knew the outcome beforehand. That way she was never embarrassed. But for the second time in a few weeks, Mike Johnson is about to lose a vote- this time renewing his speakership. It’s also an embarrassment for Donald Trump because he called for unity. He’s not getting it. Will they fix this? Probably. I doubt it will take 15 votes the way it did for McCarthy. But it still looks really really bad.

And what’s even more offensive is his statement that he would rather Hungary be Communist. I knew Hungarians who lived under Communism and fled here after the 1956 uprising was crushed. That was a slave state; HT wouldn’t last 5 minutes.

As for the OP question: I honestly believe that the biggest threat to this country is that roughly half the nation now distrusts the mainstream media. This is about 20% the fault of the MSM, which has made mistakes, reported false news at times (rarely) and has tended to ignore reasonable conservative concerns. But it is 80% the fault of conservatives themselves who, especially in the Trump era, have used legitimate concerns with the MSM as an excuse to believe falsehoods and accept lies whenever it suits them.

The funding began in the early 80s. Why don’t you post what you “read up on” that contradicts me?

Basically Soros heavily funded anti-Communist movements, particularly in his home country of Hungary, beginning in the early 80s, which contributed significantly to the liberation that took place there in 1989. I was just in Budapest and unfortunately there is no monument to Soros there, probably because he is anti-nationalist, an opponent of Viktor Orban (as any decent person should be) and a Jew.

This thread is a testimony to the misinformation spread from the right wing media. Almost everything that conservatives here have stated about Soros is a lie: he never said he hated America (he certainly doesn’t); he wasn’t a Nazi collaborator (he lost most of his family in the death camps). If you are a conservative it’s reasonable to oppose Soros’ views and the fact that he gives a lot of money to supporting Democrats. But a lot of the hatred against him positively reeks of anti-semitism- the idea that he is part of a shadowy cabal that controls events. And BTW that is not a conservative thing. The same vicious tropes used against Soros were also used against the late Sheldon Adelson, a billionaire Jew who supported Trump and right wing causes. Left wing anti-Semites, including Congresswoman Talib from Minnesota, used the exact same language about Adelson, that he was part of a shadowy Jewish cabal, etc. Same exact pattern.

Sure. I already mentioned his major contribution to bringing down the Soviet Union. That was incredibly beneficial to this country. Beyond that he has given or raised an amazing 32 billion to charities all over the world, including the USA, feeding hungry people, supporting education and public health.

I don’t want to force anyone to silence you. If somebody tried I would gladly fight on your behalf for your right to say what you want. I wish people would condemn and ignore you of their own accord. Thats what you don’t understand about free speech. You also have no understanding about Jews and Israel. As many who read me here are aware I am not exactly a supporter of the current government of Israel. But you appear to be incapable of considering Jews as individuals rather than a group, with individual opinions and goals. That’s part of the disease of anti-Semitism. Soros certainly deserves it for his contributions 35 years ago to free Eastern Europe from Communism. Outside of Ronald Reagan no American may be more responsible.

These ignorant and hateful comments don’t offend me nearly as much as the fact that no one here has condemned them. I don’t believe that most of the posters here are anti-Semitic, so I don’t understand why you tolerate this guy and treat him like he’s a normal person to have a conversation with.
