This is another perfect example of why the news should be read and not watched. If you read an article, typically it is stated as something like "sources close to _______ were given anonymity to speak about things that they do not have the authorization to address publicly." And then those statements are verified by at least one additional source, often also anonymous. These are the sources the should be listened to. Note I say listened to, not unilaterally believed. Sometimes the sources are wrong, sometimes they're planting BS for a specific reason. But in any reputable news org, the sources are vetted and stories aren't released unless corroborated. Y'all are just building a comfortable narrative for yourselves by claiming anon sources can't be trusted. The biggest news stories are regularly unearthed due to sources that may be anonymous to the public, but not the journalist.

Zero chance Trump won't get sick of Elon grabbing attention and headlines from him. The administration isn't big enough for both of their egos.
